We were searching for a nearby toilet when we stumbled across this little beauty!

We managed to grab the last available space and decided to turn it into a full day by the water. Just steps from the car park, a beautiful stone beach stretches around the lake, making it easy to find your own peaceful spot away from the crowds.

Once parked, you won’t want to move as the car park is small and fills up quickly. Toilets are conveniently located within the car park , and the village shop is less than a mile away for any essentials.

The views here are simply stunning. We spent the day paddleboarding, kayaking, and enjoying some much needed family downtime surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Coniston Water.

Definitely one of those accidental finds that turns into a favourite stop.

We were searching for the perfect place to cool down in this heatwave and we hit the jackpot!

Tucked away not far from Coniston in the Lake District, this old abandoned quarry feels like something straight out of a wild swimming dream. Crystal clear deep water, waterfall spilling down the rock face, and even a rope swing launching you straight into the icy blue below. A total sun trap surrounded by dramatic stone walls and untouched nature.

But as beautiful as it is, this place demands respect. The water is extremely cold and very deep, the rocks are loose and slippery in places, and conditions can change quickly. If you visit somewhere like this, please take care, wear suitable footwear, and never underestimate open water.

There is a paid parking area a short 20 minute walk from the quarry. £6 4 hours or £9 for 24 hours.

Definitely one of the most unreal spots we’ve stumbled across in the Lakes.

Sometimes the best places aren’t on the itinerary…

We was on route to our next destination when we came across the beautiful Loch Venachar and couldn’t resist pulling over for a while. A quiet little lochside park up, surrounded by still water, mountain views, and complete peace. The kind of spot that makes you forget about the clock completely.

We fired up the BBQ, soaked in the views, and took the paddleboard out onto the water while the sun danced across the loch. This area is in the camping management zone so you must purchase a permit for £4.50.

Driving down the road through Glen Etive felt like chasing the edge of the world

Every bend opened up another unreal scene. towering mountains, waterfalls crashing down the rocks, mirror like water, and endless little spots perfect for pulling over and jumping in for a freezing cold dip.

We honestly hit every season on the way down too. Sunshine, sideways rain, moody clouds then back to blue skies and sunshine.

And waiting at the end… Loch Etive. Absolute gold pot moment. Quiet beach, crystal water, free parking right beside it with no restrictions, bins and enough scenery to make you forget your phone even exists for a minute.

Loch views, wild swims and campfire vibes for just £4.20 a night!

We recently stayed at the Three Lochs Forest Drive and honestly… this place feels like a hidden little sanctuary tucked away in the heart of the forest.

The 7 mile loop winds through breathtaking scenery with peaceful loch views, towering pine trees, walking trails and hidden gems around almost every corner. One minute you’re parked up beside the water, the next you’re high up in the woods waking up to panoramic views.

You can choose completely different overnight spots depending on your vibe! Lochside pitches for morning swims,Forest hideaways surrounded by nature & Elevated viewpoints with unreal sunsets

For such a low cost stopover, it genuinely feels like one of the best little escapes in Scotland. Perfect for campervans, road trips, wild swimming lovers or anyone wanting to disconnect from busy life for a night or three.
You can spend the day there for only £3!

We spent our evening around the campfire, watched the light disappear over the loch and woke up to mist rolling through the trees

If you’re exploring Loch Lomond, this place absolutely deserves a spot on your itinerary.

We found an abandoned castle reclaimed by nature!

We explored a hidden ruin tucked away deep in the Scottish countryside. Ivy stitched itself through cracked stone walls, trees pushed through empty windows, and every corner felt like it had a story still hanging in the air.

Even in ruins, you could see how grand this place once was. Huge archways open to the sky, worn staircases leading into silence, and nature slowly reclaiming what was left behind.

There’s something special about places like this. No crowds, no polished visitor centre, just history, atmosphere, and the feeling of discovering something most people drive straight past.

Guess how much it cost to wake up to views like this?

Nothing! We stumbled on the most stunning little park up right on the edge of Loch Lomond, the kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. After a full day of exploring, it was the perfect spot to switch off and soak it all in.

Toilets are open 7–7, and there are a few tucked-away beaches that made an early morning dip feel like our own private escape.

Mountain views without climbing a mountain…

Our next wander took us up Conic Hill and honestly it delivers all the drama without needing ropes, ice axes, or a full existential crisis halfway up šŸ˜…

It starts quietly, winding through a peaceful woodland and only 40 minutes to the top, it’s still a steep climb in parts but every step feels worth it when those panoramic views over Loch Lomond start unfolding like a painting you’ve somehow stepped into.

This is the kind of place that reminds you adventure doesn’t have to be extreme to be unforgettable.

It’s such an easy day out. Parking, toilets & even a play area right at the bottom, so it’s perfect whether you’re chasing views or just getting out for a wander.

Into the gorge: Scotland’s secret underworld

We followed a quiet woodland trail in search of the hidden stairs to the secret gorge below.

Step by step, the world above faded. The steps dropped into a narrow gorge, wrapped in towering, moss covered cliffs that felt alive, dripping and green on every side. Red stained water twisted through the rock, small falls spilling into deep, dark pools.

We waded straight through the ice cold water, cliffs rising close around us, everything echoing yet strangely still.

This place is unreal, pure magic. Like nowhere I’ve ever been before.

It doesn’t even feel real when you’re down there… more like stepping into something ancient and hidden, carved out of the earth and left untouched

Our van isn’t your picture perfect, Instagram ready dream. It’s not minimalist, it’s not spotless, and there’s no carefully staged corner untouched by real life. With six of us in it, every inch has a purpose… and if there’s space, something’s going in it. Storage, bedding, snacks, tools, you name it, it’s found a home somewhere.

We built this van ourselves using reclaimed wood, free finds, and whatever budget friendly bits we could get our hands on. It’s a patchwork of effort, creativity, and a lot of trial and error. It might not look like a magazine spread, but it works and more importantly, it carries us to places we’ll never forget.

It’s a little chaotic, a little crowded, and completely ours. And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
