There’s something about a paddling road trip… 🇳🇴🛶

Next July, we’re heading to Norway for a whitewater canoeing adventure with a difference.

Rather than staying in one place, we’ll road trip through Norway, using water levels, conditions and local knowledge to seek out the best paddling each day.

Boats loaded, six days on the water and the flexibility to make the most of what Norway gives us. 🇳🇴

Two trips:

🛶 Grade 2 | 3–10 July 2027
🛶 Grade 3 | 10–17 July 2027

7 nights | 6 days paddling | £1,950pp

We’re getting together online tomorrow evening with some of the paddlers who’ve already expressed an interest. If Norway has caught your eye too, send us a message and we can tell you more. 😊

K is for Kitchen 🛶🇨🇦

The kitchen looks a little different when you’re travelling by canoe for nearly two weeks. 😁

No worktops, no cupboards and definitely no dishwasher… unless you count whoever happens to be on washing-up duty that night!

But there’s something pretty special about cooking and eating together at the end of a day on the river – particularly when this is the view from the kitchen. 😍

Just another part of expedition life on the Bloodvein.

Ready to take your sea kayaking further? 🌊

Next September, we’re heading to Arctic Norway for five days journeying by sea kayak through the islands and fjords around Bodø.

We’ll carry what we need in our kayaks, make camp along the way and shape our journey around the conditions we find – exploring a coastline of islands, mountains and remote beaches as we go.

This trip is for sea kayakers with some previous multi-day experience who’d like to take their expedition paddling a little further, with the support of an experienced team around them.

And the preparation starts before Norway, with a two-day pre-expedition weekend on Anglesey included as part of the trip – a chance to paddle together, prepare and get to know the team before we head north.

🇳🇴 Arctic Norway – Bodø📅 11–17 September 2027🌊 5 days sea kayaking | 6 nights💷 £1,600 per person

J is for J-stroke 🛶🇨🇦

One of the first strokes most canoeists learn – and one you certainly get plenty of practice at on a journey like the Bloodvein!

It might not be the most glamorous part of expedition canoeing, but over nearly 200 km of river, an efficient forward stroke and a good J make quite a difference. 😁

Although, as Dave demonstrates here, sometimes all that forward paddling leads somewhere a little more interesting…

I is for Indigenous Portage Trails 🇨🇦

Sometimes the journey leaves the river.

Along the Bloodvein, portage trails take you around rapids, chutes and waterfalls that can’t be paddled.

But these aren’t simply trails created for modern canoe expeditions.

For generations, Anishinaabeg have travelled, created and maintained routes across this landscape by land and water – travelling to hunt, fish, trap, gather and move between communities and camps. Many of these routes continue to be used today.

Travelling the Bloodvein by canoe means following some of those same routes – sometimes with a canoe on your shoulders. 🛶🇨🇦

Your first sea kayak expedition doesn’t have to start with years of expedition experience. 🌊

If you’re already comfortable on day trips, the next step might simply be learning how to turn those days on the water into a journey.

Packing a kayak. Living out of it. Making camp somewhere reached from the water.
Waking up, packing everything away and doing it all again.

Our Sweden Archipelago Expedition is designed as an introduction to exactly that. 🇸🇪

Four days journeying by sea kayak through the islands of Sweden’s Bohuslän coast, camping along the way - with support before the trip to help you arrive feeling prepared for your first expedition.

Because sometimes the best way to learn expedition skills is to go on one. 😊

H is for History 🇨🇦

Look closely at the rock faces along the Bloodvein and you may see something pretty extraordinary.

The Bloodvein River waterway is home to the largest collection of pictographs in Canada - Anishinaabe rock paintings created using red ochre.

The pictographs include canoes, animals, handprints and other figures and symbols.

They form part of Pimachiowin Aki - “The Land That Gives Life” - a landscape cared for by Anishinaabeg for thousands of years.

There’s so much more to a canoe journey than the paddling. 🛶

What if your next whitewater canoe trip was a road trip through Norway? 🇳🇴🛶

Six days of paddling. Different rivers. Spectacular scenery. And the flexibility to follow the best water.

In July 2027, Paddle International and Heart & Soul Adventures are heading to Norway for a whitewater canoe adventure through the Sjoa and Lillehammer regions.

There are two separate weeks:

🛶 Grade 2 – for canoeists with plenty of Grade 2 experience
🛶 Grade 3 – for experienced Grade 3 paddlers

We’ll transport your own canoe from the UK, then road trip between rivers, staying at a mixture of wild camps, campsites and simple campsite cabins along the way.

Which week would you choose – Grade 2 or Grade 3? 👇

🇳🇴 3–10 July 2027 – Grade 2
🇳🇴 10–17 July 2027 – Grade 3

G is for Granite. 🇨🇦

It’s pretty hard to miss the ancient rock of the Canadian Shield on the Bloodvein.

The river winds its way through this incredible rocky landscape, with exposed bedrock shaping the channels, rapids and shorelines along the way.

Some of the granitic rocks in this part of Canada are billions of years old.

Paddling through it makes for some pretty dramatic scenery – exposed rock, rushing water and forest stretching as far as you can see.

Not a bad place to spend a couple of weeks in a canoe. 😍🛶
