Fancy exploring an ancient Norman seaport this weekend?

Back in the 90s when I lived to the balearic beat we would do La Ruta de la Sal every year. It is my favourite yacht race. 200 yachts sailing from the mainland to Ibiza under the Easter full moon. Here we are at the prizegiving in 1998. George and Chang are no longer with us. Little Jamie Smith on the left of the photo is now a master mariner! Tomorrow I head back out there to prepare Emily of Cowes for the race. It will be my first time back in the race in 28 years. A trip down memory lane! I wonder if our course record of 8 hours 13 minutes still stands?

D’Arty, Team Emily’s 2025 apprentice, is a keen fisherman having grown up on an island in the Thames. Yesterday as we sailed towards Sardinia he got lucky. The fascinating bit is that he is a vegetarian and has been since birth. One wonders: Did he break his fast of 23 years?

Team Emily are nearing the Fastnet Rock having fitted a new genoa halyard at anchorage in front of Kinsale. The crew are determined to finish so they headed under storm jib into shelter before a trip up the mast to fit a new halyard! What a fantastic effort from a great team - enjoy your Rock rounding day!

Congratulations to Ross Applebey, Neil Maher and the Scarlet Emily’s for their well deserved class win in the Caribbean 600.
For Emily of Cowes this year that makes two out of two offshore. Next up, after a relaxing cruise across the Atlantic, we will be doing a Fastnet campaign and then to finish off a busy 2025 we will head down to the Med for the Middle Sea Race.
Our crew list for Middle Sea is closed, but please do get in touch if you fancy joining Team Emily for a Fastnet Lite 🥂.
