What a shot for a 'family photo' don't you think?!

Family photo?

Whenever tour operators like Turus Mara come across bottlenose dolphins, we do our best to take as many photos as possible. The main aim is identification photos of the dorsal fin which in many dolphins is helpfully marked with nicks, cuts, blemishes and rake marks.

The other function of photos is to establish any personal bonds that might exist between particular dolphins. In this photo, it looks as if we might be able to tell which calf is travelling with which group member at the time and locatiion the photo was taken. This is one in a short series which also has some usable fin detail.

With it being we thought we'd share this one from Mull Charters...

What a great day for wildlife. It started with this young sparrowhawk who decided my cherry tree was a good place to sit for a while. The pic was taken with my I phone through the patio doors as our guests were eating breakfast. This morning we had a goldie fly out to investigate the boat! never before have we seen a goldie head towards us with such purpose, perhaps they have watched the white tails fishing and wondered what all the fuss was about. After a visit from our male bird we headed back to Ulva in a roundabout route only spoiled by the heavy showers. This afternoon we had male and female white tailed eagles at the boat, close views of red throated divers grey and common seals and to round it off nicely a good view of kinky our local otter in the Ulva channel. A nice mix of new faces and regular visitors too. All in all a great day here on Mull.
