๐Today is World Ocean Day!
Here are five fun facts about Thailand's beautiful surrounding watersโฆ.
๐ฆ Thailandโs coastline spans over 2,800 kilometers
๐ฆ It is divided into two distinct bodies of water: the shallow Gulf of Thailand (Pacific Ocean) to the east and the deep, biodiverse Andaman Sea (Indian Ocean) to the west
๐ฆ At the narrowest point of the Malay Peninsula (between Chumphon and Ranong), these two oceans are separated by just 100 kilometers of land.
๐ฆ There are over 22 national marine parks and numerous protected areas that are home to coral reefs.
๐ฆ Across Thailand, many conservation and preservation projects are helping to clean up the oceans and keep the homes of its vibrant marine life safe with almost 6% of its territorial waters designated as Marine Protected Areas.
