Mandy Mandy B Designs, has produced some really lovely new pieces of art. Every one is unique, having been made my hand, using shells, small stones and feathers collected on Criccieth beaches and intertwined with silk threads and beads and pearls from discarded jewellery. Beautiful works of art 💙

Melanie and Jim moved down to North Wales from Cheshire at the end of 2017. Jim retired from managing an engineering business in Wigan, and Melanie continues her sales training and consultancy business supporting the hospitality industry.
Hen Felin (Old Mill) was a corn mill powered by a water wheel, built in 1777 by the Trefan Estate. The building was turned into a dwelling in the 1960s. We have refurbished it during 2018 and early 2019, replacing windows, heating system and wiring to bring it up to date and try and reduce the running costs and carbon emissions associated with comfortable living in a 18th century stone building.
The lower floor is a separate apartment which we let as a self-catering holiday apartment. You reach this via a sweeping stone pathway from the main driveway down to the patio area and front entrance. The patio area has a table and chairs and overlooks the river and gardens.
It sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms. The larger bedroom can be set up either as a king-size bed or two singles (3ft/90cm wide) and the second bedroom has two full-size single beds (3ft/90cm wide).
The apartment has central heating, a compact bathroom (step-in shower), modern kitchen with dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave etc and a sitting room/dining area which is open plan with the kitchen. Freesat is provided for the TV and WiFi is available throughout. However this has limited speed; we do not have fibre in this part of Wales yet!
We live on-site and are happy to answer any questions whether about the property, facilities and the surrounding area. The property has about 1 acre of land and 100 metres of river bank and we do own the fishing rights. There are Sea Trout and Salmon in the river although not being fishermen ourselves, we have yet to experience of catching any yet.
When we came to Hen Felin the garden was completely overgrown, making it a fabulous haven for wildlife. We have tamed some of it, but will continue to leave significant areas relatively untended. This has the double benefit of improving the habitat for a more diverse range of wildlife plus cutting down the amount of time we have to spend mowing and weeding!
There is a wealth of things to do in the local area including access to fantastic walking on the beaches and of course, the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Criccieth has it’s own castle and Harlech Castle is just a 20 minute drive away or a short hop on and off the local train which runs along the sea front and estuary. Portmeirion is a fabulous place to visit, famous for the filming of The Prisoner back in the 1960’s. Designed by architect, Clough Williams-Ellis, it is a truly magical place. The italianate buildings are a joy to behold with lots of interesting shops and cafes along with the Portmeirion Hotel for a more “up market” bite to eat or cocktails and the whole estate has stunning views from every angle. Another favourite of ours is the Welsh Highland Railway offering the most wonderful trips on one of their many steam trains up to Ffestiniog and Caernarfon. It has a full buffet service on board with hot and cold snacks, light meals plus a full bar. Not to be missed! However, its worth checking online or calling them to make reservations in high season.
Journey times are estimated as follows:- Manchester and Liverpool approximately 2 hours by car. Birmingham would be more like 3 hours. There are plenty of train options including from London Euston to Bangor Gwynedd which is just 3 hours 15 minutes. Bangor station is 40 minutes by car and we can arrange pick-ups if organised with us in advance (charge applies).
We look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of heaven in North Wales.
