Teresa & Peter have brought the sunshine with them🌞

It was glorious as they pedalled away on their two day ebike bikepacking trip "The Drovers' Escape".

They travelled to Comrie Croft from London via public transport yesterday (without a hitch!) and spent a night in the Eco Lodge.

A bit of packing and instructions from Em this morning and they were ready to go. Two days getting away from it all through some of our finest landscapes.

We are excited to welcome them back tomorrow and hear their stories.

"Bikepacking, it turns out, is less about the luggage strapped to your handlebars and more about the excess baggage you shed along the way"

A huge thank you to Jeremy for this superb article in The Times yesterday. He absolutely nailed it when he summed up what bikepacking is all about.

Ebikes were our mode of transport and our accommodation was a hotel on the banks of Loch Tay. Morning dip in the Loch, quite roads and secluded glens, we had such an adventure.

The Drovers Escape bikepacking trip is available for booking on the website👇

It feels like is has been raining for days!
The fields are flooding, roads are flooded and the 3 rivers that meet in Comrie are causing chaos. Riding to work is a complete mission!

Here is a photo of riding bikes on a glorious sunny day, just to remind ourselves that the sun will shine again🌞

Tomorrow (4th Dec) is the last full moon of the year. It is also going to be a supermoon🌕

For the interested out there, this means that the moon is at its closest point to earth in its orbit, called lunar perigee.

The furthest point away is called a lunar apogee.

The moon can appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter compared to when it's furthest away.

The supermoon will rise at 15:11 tomorrow. No clear skies forecast for Strathearn but maybe it won't be 100% cloud cover and we'll catch a glimpse🤞

Woodland🌱
It calms the soul.

The most beautiful ancient oak woodland surrounds the gorge made by the River Lednock.

This year has been an oak mast year. When the trees produce an huge number of acorns. And they truly have. I keep thinking of all the happy fat squirrels with their massive stashes of acorns to see them through the winter.

Taking the path North from Comrie, through the woods and up into Glen Lednock is a path I often take. I will never grow bored of it.

My favourite time is in the winter. In the dark early morning, cycling up to . It's so quiet and peaceful. The back of the oak leaves reflect my light and crunch under my tyres. I might see the eyes of roe deer through the trees. The sound of water gets closer. The dark a comfort blanket around me.

Tomorrow is the dreaded Black Friday🤮 I can't remember when this consumer frenzy started but it hasn't been that long. Each year it seems to gain in it hideous momentum.
Why are humans addicted to buying/having stuff? Is it a dopamine hit? - how long does that actually last? Fear of missing out? I am 100% certain that most of what is bought is neither needed nor useful.

Stepping away and giving Black Friday a big fat swerve - now that feels so much better to me.

INSTEAD.... DO SOMETHING THAT REALLY DOES MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD🤩

🌱Spend time with loved ones: Put down your devices and enjoy time with family and friends.
🌱Choose experiences over possessions: Invest in memories and experiences rather than material goods.
🌱Repair instead of replace: Fix items you already own instead of buying new ones.
🌱Give back: Donate your time, skills, or money to a cause you care about.
🌱Shop mindfully: Consider buying secondhand or vintage items. Support brands that use natural, recycled, or recyclable materials. Look for companies that donate a portion of their sales to environmental or social causes.

Temperatures have plummeted here in Strathearn. The high hills have a dusting of snow with more forecast this week.

In Scotland some of the best days on a bike can be experienced in winter. The bracken has died back, trails open up, the light is stunning. Sunrises and sunsets are easy to catch.

But before you ride in winter, you need to take a moment to think and make sure you are well prepared. If something goes wrong, with freezing temperatures and limited daylight hours, an incident, even fairly close to home, can become life threatening.

is an annual campaign that promotes important winter safety messages from Mountaineering Scotland & partners. Its aim is to provide the information, advice and knowledge you need to enjoy winter in the Scottish hills safely and responsibly, whatever your activity.💯

❄️👇THINK WINTER CHECKLIST 👇❄️

❄️What will the weather and conditions be like? ▪️ Plan your route. Check out mountain weather forecasts; temperatures can change dramatically as you head higher up into the hills and wind chill can easily drop the ‘feels like’ temperature down 10॰C or more.
❄️Have you got the right clothing and equipment for winter?
▪️ Be prepared for snow, ice and very cold temperatures - pack appropriate outdoor winter clothing, footwear and equipment and take plenty to eat and drink.
❄️Is your intended route suitable for your experience and fitness level, and that of anyone you're going with?
▪️ Make sure you have the right winter skills and experience for what you are planning to do.
❄️Do you have a number of options or are you set on one route or plan?
▪️ Know your limits and be prepared to alter your plans if the weather or conditions change.
❄️Have you told someone else where you are going?
▪️ Let someone know where you are going, what you intend to do and what time you will be back.
❄️Do you know when and how to call for help? ▪️ In an emergency call 999 or 112 and ask for Police, and then Mountain Rescue.

At the top of Glen Lednock watching eagles soar. A sight I will never tire of.

Standing astride my bike, I remember the joy of stopping watching this incredible bird. Time stood still. We watched until it soared out of sight.
