These beautiful ancient sweet chestnut trees are found just a short walk up the hill from Comrie Croft.
I love their gnarled trunks & huge low bows. I always wonder what they must have seen, what history has passed them while they have remained.
Who planted them, why are they there? Sweet chestnut trees aren't native to the UK.
A single tree is home to lichens, fungi & invertebrates and the nuts are a valuable source of food for red squirrels, birds, deer & mice.
There is something comforting about their presence. To be close to them has a wonderful calming effect on me.
