On 9 September 2023, on the A421 near Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, UK, two motorcyclists on identical Yamaha R1 bikes crashed while trying to pass a car at high speed.
Lewis Baker (35, a mechanic from Milton Keynes) and his brother-in-law Jason Wallis (31, an engineer) were riding together. Helmet camera (GoPro) footage from Baker showed him reaching a top speed of 178 mph (286 km/h) during their ride, and he was travelling at around 120 mph (193 km/h) at the moment of the crash.
What Happened
Wallis attempted to undertake (pass on the inside) while Baker tried to overtake the same car.
Both bikes collided with the car.
Jason Wallis died in the crash.
Baker was badly injured (including a broken thigh bone) but survived.
