🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Drei wunderbare Tage in den schottischen Highlands ❤️

Manchmal habe ich bei meiner Arbeit wirklich das Gefühl, dass ich den schönsten Job der Welt habe.

Die letzten drei Tage durfte ich mit 16 meiner Landsleute durch die Highlands fahren – erzählen, erklären, übersetzen, gemeinsam lachen und ihnen ein kleines Stück von dem Schottland zeigen, das ich seit so vielen Jahren meine Heimat nennen darf. 🇩🇪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Wir waren bei den Ruthven Barracks, sind durch die herrliche Landschaft der Cairngorms gefahren, haben natürlich auch dem schottischen Wh**ky bei Dalwhinnie unsere Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt 🥃 und waren unterwegs bis nach Inverness.

Aber eigentlich sind es gar nicht nur die bekannten Sehenswürdigkeiten, die solche Tage besonders machen.

Es sind die kleinen Stopps unterwegs. Ein schöner Ausblick, bei dem man einfach einmal anhält. Eine Geschichte, die einem plötzlich wieder einfällt. Ein bisschen schottische Geschichte, ein bisschen Unsinn, viel Gelächter – und natürlich jede Menge wunderschöne Landschaft.

✨ Scotland is far too beautiful for the direct route…

From Glasgow, we took the scenic road to magnificent Stirling Castle, followed by a wonderful lunch at Brea in the heart of Stirling.

From centuries-old history to extraordinary engineering, we continued to the Falkirk Wheel and the mighty Kelpies before stepping into Outlander country at Midhope Castle — better known to fans as Jamie Fraser’s beloved Lallybroch.

Today, my little Roy boy is exactly FOUR WEEKS SOUND — 100% sound — after a prolonged episode of intermittent lameness starting in May. ❤️🐾

What a journey it has been.

Our first port of call was Wilson & Partners Vets in Cupar, who assessed Roy and referred him to the excellent Ferguson Vets in Glenrothes. A CT scan revealed a small amount of additional bone on his right elbow; thankfully, his left was absolutely fine.

Surgery was suggested as an option, but at that stage I decided not to go straight down that route. Roy was still walking 10–15 kilometres a day and I was genuinely worried that keeping this very active Labrador quiet after surgery might prove rather challenging! 😂

Instead, alongside veterinary care and anti-inflammatory medication, Roy started treatment with my own HUMAN chiropractor, Dr Jon Liu at Realm Chiropractic in Cupar.

I have been treated by Jon since 2021 and the difference he has made to a lifelong shoulder problem of mine has been extraordinary.

And Roy? He LOVES him. 😂❤️

Roy often accompanies me when I teach yoga at Realm on Tuesdays. He used to walk straight towards the yoga studio. Now he comes through the door and immediately turns LEFT into Jon’s treatment room! Apparently yoga can wait. 😂🐕

Three weeks after starting chiropractic treatment, Roy went sound.

He has now been completely medication-free for three weeks and today marks FOUR WEEKS of being 100% sound.

Most importantly, my happy, active, slightly bonkers Roy boy is back enjoying life to the full. ❤️

I am incredibly grateful to Jon at Realm Chiropractic, Wilson & Partners Vets and Ferguson Vets for the different parts they have each played in getting my boy to where he is today.

The man whose extraordinary survival story helped inspire Robinson Crusoe was a Fifer.

Alexander Selkirk was born here in the wee fishing village of Lower Largo in 1676. He went to sea and, in 1704, was left alone on a remote island in the South Pacific after declaring that his ship was no longer seaworthy.

For more than four years, Selkirk survived entirely by his own ingenuity, courage and sheer Scottish determination. He hunted goats for food, fashioned clothing from their skins and waited, day after lonely day, for a sail to appear on the horizon.

He was finally rescued in 1709, and his remarkable story later helped inspire Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe.

Today, Selkirk still watches over Main Street from the statue erected at the site of his birthplace. Dressed in goatskins and gazing towards the sea, he is a quiet reminder that one of the world’s greatest adventure stories began right here, in a small corner of Fife.

Walking through Lower Largo and looking up at him, I was struck by how Scotland’s greatest stories are often found in the most unexpected places.

What a way to start the day! Another beautiful Scottish sunrise, another early start, and we are on the road to collect yet another lovely bunch of guests.
