Awarded Volvo Penta 'Outstanding Performance in 2016'

On behalf of the team at Darthaven Marina, please allow me to extend a warm welcome to our page. Situated in Kingswear Village, on the sunny side of the River Dart, Darthaven Marina is one of the few family owned and managed Marinas left in the UK. We have taken pleasure in providing our customers with excellent service for 50 years.

Today we take pride in offering service as it used to be – putting our customers first. We provide visitor facilities and an extensive range of on-site services including marine engine servicing and rebuilds, wood and GRP repairs, marine electrical and electronic services, a 40 ton travel hoist and an extensively stocked chandlery. Our status as a Volvo Penta Centre means that we have a large range of both Volvo and other engine parts in stock. All of our staff are highly trained and with many years of experience in their respective fields. We hope that you will visit Darthaven and we look forward to being of service to you.

Spotted on the Tamar this week...

One of the Royal Norwegian Navy's Skjold-class corvettes making an impressive sight as she passed through Plymouth.

Built for speed and stealth, the Skjold-class vessels can reach speeds of up to 60 knots, making them among the fastest combat ships in the world.

Did anyone else catch a glimpse of her?

We are delighted to announce that Rob Gillard, Technical Services Manager, and Ben Trayhorn, Quayside & Marina Operations Manager, have been appointed Directors of Darthaven Marina.

Having both joined the business at a similar time, Rob and Ben have played a significant role in Darthaven's growth and success over the years. Their combined experience, industry knowledge and commitment to both our customers and team make them a natural fit for this next chapter.

Their appointments reflect not only their individual achievements, but also the strength of their partnership. Built on mutual respect, excellent communication and a shared passion for the marine industry, their collaborative approach continues to strengthen the business and support our customers, team and marina community.

Commenting on the appointments, Managing Director Sophie Bragg said:

"I am so delighted that Rob and Ben are joining the Board. They both have exceptional expertise, their desire and ability to problem-solve is second to none, and their commitment to our customers and our team is relentless. Most of all, they are both an absolute pleasure to work with."

Darthaven owner John Holman added:

"I am very pleased to have Ben and Rob on board. It is good to have the next generation of leadership come through and bring new ideas to continue the development of Darthaven. It also gives me confidence that the longer-term management of the business will be in good hands. Welcome to the challenges that these roles will entail!"

Please join us in congratulating Rob and Ben on this well deserved achievement 👏

Our smallest 3/8" seacock in stock to our largest 4", modelled by our Shipwright Apprentice, Ollie!

The following images show the replacement of a 4" seacock, along with generator and A.C. intake seacocks located within the same bilge area.

Our shipwrights carefully removed the existing fittings, installed the new seacocks, and finished the job by thoroughly cleaning the area using Bilgex to remove built up grime and debris.

Next up in our Plymouth team introductions is Ian, our Service Administrator at Darthaven Services Plymouth.

Boats and the sea have been part of Ian's life for as long as he can remember. Growing up in Cremyll, just a stone's throw from Mashfords Boat Yard, his earliest memories include fishing by the water and even crossing paths with famed sailor Sir Francis Chichester, with Gypsy Moth IV moored nearby on the river.

Before joining Darthaven in March 2025, Ian spent 10 years with Princess Yachts and has enjoyed plenty of adventures on the water himself, from sailing the coasts of Devon and Cornwall to solo sailing a catamaran in the Gulf of Thailand.

As Service Administrator, Ian is often the link between our customers and engineering team, coordinating servicing and repairs, keeping customers informed and helping ensure work is completed smoothly and efficiently.

When asked what makes Darthaven special, Ian's answer was simple:

"I have said more than once that I wished I had started working here 30 years ago."

Keep an eye out over the coming weeks as we introduce more of the team behind Darthaven Services Plymouth.

Spotted on the River Tamar earlier this week.

This is PPC Boat 9, 'Curlew', one of five patrol boats providing security and policing for Devonport Dockyard and the Port of Plymouth.

Powered by Volvo Penta at Sea D13 engines and serviced by our team at Darthaven Services Plymouth, these vessels work hard year-round and are typically serviced every six months to keep them operating at their best.
