Sometimes a yacht comes our way that for one reason or another makes us stop in our tracks with the sheer elegance and beauty of the design. Glengour is one of those, maybe not your stereotypical classic beauty with a long counter stern and low freeboard, but none the less a supremely elegant yacht, all the prettier because of the practicality of the design. Termed a 'fifty-fifty' cruiser by her Scottish designer, she is an ideal boat for the Western Isles with both inside and outside helm positions, big ketch rig and twin engines. She is less than 40' LOD but still has a spacious Thames Tonnage of 15TM meaning plenty of useable interior volume. After 25 years in the present very careful ownership, some other lucky soul has the chance to become the next custodian of Glengour and continue her story. Sensibly priced at £69,950 and lying in Scotland, full details in the link below:

There’s a lot of history packed into the nearly 130 years this yacht has been sailing. I wonder what her builders would have said if they knew she would last this long? Coming on the market later this year lying in the UK.

This little gem is a Herreshoff Islander class, a keel boat of 19’ length on deck built in the UK to a design from the office of Herreshoff. Very pretty, fast and great fun to sail l, she will be coming on the market very soon. Complete with 2 berths, a good size cockpit and an electric outboard in a well at the stern. The rig has been updated with new standing rigging, recent sails and a Harken furler for the jib making her easy to sail single handed. Complete with road trailer, this is a superb little day boat for some fun racing or simply pottering up and down the coast.

There seems to be some excellent value boats on the market at present, and this 43' Camper and Nicholson sloop is a prime example. With an elegant sheer and eye catching lines, she ticks all the boxes of a pedigree classic yacht and has been well looked after by the present owner, including a complete engine rebuild in 2025. At just £35,000 this is a very attractive price for a proper yacht that is in commission and ready to sail away.

Alfred Westmacott might not be the first name that springs to mind when asked who were the top British naval architects of the last 10 years, but he is behind some of our most loved and enduring fleets, including the Solent Sunbeam and X-OD day boats, both of which have prolific fleets still racing in the Solent area today. This beautiful gaff cutter is similar in design to the X-OD but bigger all round and has been racing successfully in classic regattas for the last 15+ years, turning heads wherever she goes. With a spacious cabin for her length comprising 2 berths, heads space and a small galley, she could be an excellent weekend boat with the pace and handling to be an effective classic regatta boat at the same time. If you want to compete in the various classic events through the summer months without the costs of running a large yacht, this could be just the boat that would offer the the right pedigree and looks to feel proud of as an owner, but also giving enough space to live aboard for long weekends while taking part in these great fun events. Attractively priced at £17,500, in commission and currently ready to sail.

Starling Burgess is a lesser known American naval architect but has designed some very well known yachts over the years and has had great success. This little gem is maybe one of his lesser known boats and was part of the American challenge in the 6m championships here in the UK after her launch in 1921. She is an unusual shape for the time with a very short counter stern a relatively flat sheer, but this was to maximise her performance within the rules of the class. In recent years she has had a major refit and overhaul bringing up to a very high spec for racing. She has competed in many of the south coast classic regattas and has won virtually everything she enters. With a gaff rig replacing her original bermudan rig, she rates extremely well and it is thought that under IRC rules she could be a very effective yacht with the ability to win a lot of silverware. In immaculate race ready condition, could this be an ideal boat for syndicate ownership to race in classic regattas? All the fun with very acceptable running costs.

The Miller Fifer motor yachts were by Millers in Fife, Scotland and came in a range of sizes. This yacht is the most common 33' version, based on the local fishing vessels with capable and robust hulls built with heavy sawn oak frames. This particular boat has recently been reduced in price to £29,000 due to the owners circumstances and now represents very good value. She has a very reliable Ford 80hp engine, all recent navigation systems, new rigging and recent sails. These excellent boats are incredibly sea worthy, easy to handle and give lots of space and volume for the length. a great cruising boat for those looking away from an outright sailing yacht, the wheelhouse makes for comfortable time aboard especially in our unpredictable weather!
