Sea trial today with a very happy buyer on this 28’ Fairey Huntsman. Seen her heading across Start Bay with the entrance to Dartmouth in our wake. The twin Cummins diesels are purring at this comfortable cruising speed.

Lovisa was built by 2 Swedish brothers to an American design and launched in 1956. Over the next few years they sailed the boat through the European canals, across the Atlantic to the West Indies and arrived back in Falmouth in 1959. The American roots of this yacht are evident with her generous beam and clipper type bow. being a centreboard design, she only draws 3' with the plate up meaning she can creep into shallow areas otherwise off limits to most boats of this size. Rig set up for short handed sailing with roller furlers, boomed staysail and stack packs on main and mizzen booms. Aft cabin with a large double and a double cabin in the bows gives 6 berths in total. New teak deck finished in 2025. New rigging 2026. A really eye catching yacht in cracking condition. Sensibly priced as the long time owner would like to move her on before the end of the summer. Lying in Falmouth, Cornwall and priced at £60,000.

Last week we visited the Yarmouth Old Gaffers annual regatta to see the Ed Burnett gaff cutter Foxhound, a stunning 30' yacht from the great Burnett that is now listed with us at £100,000. Built in 2001 by MB Yachts in Dorset she is one of several yachts built to this now legendary design. Although seemingly not a large boat from the dimensions, she beats all expectations in terms of her capability, performance, deck space and interior volume. With numerous regatta wins to her name this is a boat that has been superbly maintained by her owners over the years. Last week she won the Class1 gaffers trophy and the Passage Race cup with an average speed of 6.7 knots on a cross channel crossing while sailing to Yarmouth, good going for a yacht with a waterline length of less than 27'. Fully equipped and ready for her next owner, this is a yacht that offers well balanced compromises which will suit many modern yacht buyers. Full details available in the advert:

Something a little different, described by some as a piece of furniture! Built by Petterson in Sweden in 1927, she had a major rebuild at Lallows Yard in cowes and is now in superb condition. Fitted with a Beta diesel she will do 12 knots and would be perfectly suited to a large estuary or lake. A superbly elegant boat that really stands out from the crowd. Full details coming on the web site soon.

The Lymington L Class MERMURUS sold by Wooden Ships last year. Here she is on the slip behind Island Street in Salcombe having a bit of work done before the summer. You can see the resemblance to the Vertue and how her lines were developed to produce that world famous small cruising yacht.

Camper & Nicholsons yard were quick to realise the change in yacht construction when it came, and saw the future would be with GRP. They looked to adapt early on and built several designs in the new material, most notably the Nicholson 36. This example was built in 1962, still in the heyday of British wooden yacht building, and is one of their recognisable C&N yacht designs but with a GRP hull. The hull was laid up by Halmatic Ltd, experts in the new material, and finished by Campers with a varnished mahogany superstructure, cockpit and nice classic interior. These boats were raced a lot in the early years and will still provide their owners with exciting classic regatta racing, but are also excellent cruising yachts. A nice example of the class, well presented and ready to sail this season at £35,000

Lindy II was the second of Harrison Butlers Davinka designs to be built after his very own yacht Vindilis. Lindy II was built at A.H. Moody & Son and retains her original bermudan yawl rig. With a major in depth professional refit around 2012 she is still in good structural shape. Sensibly priced at £20,000 to reflect the owners circumstances and the need for a quick sale this spring. Full set of new photos and video tour just uploaded to the web site. This is a lovely pedigree yacht and a superb example of pre-war British yacht design from one our greatest designers.
