‼️UPDATE‼️
Just over 3 months in on our redecoration that turned into a renovation 🫣 of Higher Dart Cottage 💙
Continued thanks and appreciation to our kind neighbours for their support and understanding as we make the cottage watertight and secure for many years to come 🤞
The flat roof at the rear of the cottage has been replaced and insulated and the joists and timbers have also been replaced due to water damage over many years. We have replaced the hanging slate tiles with reclaimed Welsh slate which blends nicely with the neighbouring properties.
We then needed to replaced the existing main roof as the existing roof was made from Asbestos tiles and the roof was at the very end of its useful life!
Fingers crossed we are now watertight for many years to come 🤞🤞
We also took the opportunity whilst the roof was being replaced to fit a log burner in the sitting room and reflue the existing but unused chimney.
Internally, it’s a case of preserving and exposing as much of the original stone wall as possible so these are being carefully stripped back and we are hoping that these can be a nice feature to expose and enjoy in the future.
The sash windows and casements at the front of the cottage were beyond repair. Just really very rotten and so we had no option than to replace these windows with exact replicas - these should be being fitted next week and then the repainting of the cottage can begin!
New gutters and fascia's will complete the outside of the cottage and we can then get moving, in earnest, on the inside.
We are getting there... Adrian our builder is doing a fantastic job... Tiny steps forward but progress is being made 😍
