The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and the temperature is dropping. This can only mean one thing... Time for a break. This is the time of year to snuggle up and hunker down. If you prefer, do something more energetic…. A blustery walk along the cliffs, or through the Cornish countryside, well wrapped up against the cold, and then heading back to our cosy lodge for hot chocolate or a glass or two of wine, in warm and comfortable surroundings. Do some Christmas shopping at Cornwall’s many independent shops, or take a break after Christmas and New Year to relax after all the excitement and festivities.

Cornwall is one of the most popular destinations in the UK for a staycation, and it is obvious why, but what’s not so obvious is why it can be a great place to visit in autumn and winter. There is something quite romantic about going for idyllic walks, well wrapped up against the cold and finishing at one of the cosy pubs or restaurants in a picturesque village, in front of a roaring fire with a glass or two. The same picturesque villages turn into twinkling spectacles nearer Christmas with their decorated streets and houses, with reflections sparkling in beautiful harbours. Perfect too for spending time doing Christmas shopping at the many Christmas Fayres that Cornwall has to offer.

The lodge is in a rural location looking over fields alongside the River Inny. Bodmin Moor has now been designated an International Dark Sky Reserve and in the clear night skies with the naked eye there are some beautiful star lit skies to be seen from the lodge. In autumn and winter evenings, you might be lucky enough to see a murmuration of starlings. We have on several occasions.
