🌍 We’re so excited to share the Kent Downs National Landscape and Cross-Channel Geopark Transmanche will be featured on BBC Countryfile this weekend!
The episode explores the influence of France on the ‘Garden of England’. From strikingly similar geology to centuries of shared farming traditions, and even a mutual love of cheese and wine! 🧀🍷 The connections run deep…and they’re about to grow even stronger.
We’re on the verge of making history as we apply to become the world’s first UNESCO Cross-Channel Global Geopark — celebrating the geological and cultural links between Kent and northern France.
In the programme, Louella, our Geopark Animator, and Steve Friedrich Geopark Ambassador, plus a Ranger with the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership, take presenter Charlotte Smith on a fossil exploration at The Warren, Folkestone, bringing the area’s fascinating geology to life.
You’ll also hear from Greg, who’s leading our Geodiversity work and UNESCO application, and learn how we’re working with our French partners to share knowledge and protect this extraordinary shared landscape.
The team also visits Samphire Hoe Official, a nature reserve created from the chalk dug out during the Channel Tunnel excavation, and the White Cliffs, where they meet a farmer who’s chosen French Charolais cattle — a nod to our enduring cross-Channel connections. 🐄
