Spot the Hardy connection!

Few landscapes are as inseparable from a writer as Dorset is from Thomas Hardy and whilst he fictionalised the region as Wessex, many of the locations in his novels remain instantly recognisable. Walking here, it is easy to see how the landscape shaped novels such as Tess of the d’Ubervilles and Far from the Madding Crowd.

Travelling through Hardy’s Wessex on foot, it becomes not an abstract setting but literary geography.

Let Henderson's Dorset guide you on your Dorset literary journey. See more at https://www.hendersonsdorset.com/walking-holiday/hardy's-dorset

Take an English Garden tour with a difference!

In early summer, a few villages open their garden gates for just a handful of days, offering a rare and wonderfully personal glimpse into English village life.
From small, modern courtyards to extensive, lovingly landscaped gardens created by enthusiastic plantsmen and women, this is a genuine peek behind the English garden gate - unpolished, authentic and full of character.

Ancient Dorset: Hillforts & Ridgeways

Our eight-day Dorset walking holiday isn’t just about the beautiful countryside you pass through. Along the way, you’ll also discover historic towns and ancient villages, each with its own stories, history and sense of place.

The Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury; Fiddleford's medieval manor house; the quintessential thatched village of Milton Abbas with its magnificent abbey; mystical Cerne Abbas with it's giant chalk hill carving and spiritual Silver Well; Abbotsbury's honey-gold stone cottages and hilltop chapel; Dorset's County Town of Dorchester - once Roman Dunovaria; and finally, Corfe Castle with its eponymous castle ruins towering over the village below.
