Most roadtrips look good on a map. But fewer actually deliver when you’re on them.

These are 4 that definitely do. And the best time to take them is in the summer.

1. Iceland’s Ring Road
2. Norway’s Atlantic Edge
3. Top of the World Highway
4. The Land of a Thousand Lakes

If you’re up for some of the world’s greatest roadtrips, this is a pretty good place to start.

Are you travelling at the wrong time of year?

Most people plan around peak season. It feels like the safest option. The best weather, the longest days, the most going on.

But that’s also when prices are highest, places are busiest, and availability is tightest.

We often find the best trips happen just outside of that window.

Shoulder season travel tends to strike a better balance. More space, more flexibility, and a chance to experience a place without everything feeling stretched.

It also changes what you actually see and do. Wildlife, light, and landscapes don’t all peak at the same time. Getting the timing right makes a bigger difference than most people expect.

If you’re planning a trip, it’s worth asking the question.

Save this for later, or share it with someone who always travels in peak season.

Does this bar have the best view in Norway?

On a Havila Voyages coastal cruise, Havbris Bar is one you won’t find on a map. It’s a pop-up on deck 8, right by the jacuzzis and saunas, opening when the conditions are right along Norway’s historic coastal route.

Think fresh mussel tastings, sail-away drinks from Bergen, Arctic baptisms, and local specialities like rømmegrøt, all with the fjords and coastline moving around you.

It’s part of the experience of sailing the Norwegian coast. Not scheduled. Not guaranteed. But when it appears, it’s usually for a really good reason.

Planning a summer trip?

Where you go matters more than you think.

In some places, it’s about wildlife at its peak.
In others, it’s longer days, open roads, and moments you only get a short window for.

These are the ideas worth planning around, along with a few tips to experience them properly.

Save this and come back to it when you start planning your next summer adventure.

This is what summer looks like in West Sweden.

Long days by the water. Still mornings on the harbour. Time outdoors, good food and some much needed peace and quiet.

Life here is full of coasts and forests. Fishing boats heading out, cafés filling slowly, and people just making the most of everyday life.

We’ve taken a closer look at the places, people and everyday rhythms that shape it.

Three weeks. One route. A very different way to see New Zealand.

This journey takes you from the geothermal landscapes of the North Island to the remote coastlines of the south, following some of the darkest skies on Earth along the way.

You’ll stay in places like a glass PurePod tucked into the hills above Kaikōura. Cross the Cook Strait. Watch the Milky Way stretch across the sky in Tekapo and Aoraki / Mount Cook. And spend a night deep in Fiordland on a Doubtful Sound cruise, where there’s no signal, no noise, and very little else around.

It’s not just about stargazing. It’s the rhythm of the trip that makes it work. The long drives, the quieter stops, the moments where you pull over and realise just how far you’ve come.

All mapped out, but never rushed.

Save this one for later, or send it to the person you’d take with you.

Food just tastes different when you know where it came from.

In Finnish Lakeland, it’s all right there.
Lakes full of fresh fish. Forests packed with berries and mushrooms.
The seasons shape what ends up on your plate.

It’s simple, yet thoughtful. And you can taste it.

For the foodies out there, if your trips revolve around what’s on the table, this is one worth bookmarking.

Where is the darkest sky on Earth?

And when did you last really see one?

For most of us, it’s not where we live. Light pollution has changed what we see when we look up. The sky is still there, it's just quieter than it used to be.

So people are starting to travel for it.

To find places where darkness is protected. Where your eyes adjust and keep finding more. Where the Milky Way isn’t something you have to search for, it’s just there.

In New Zealand’s Aoraki Mackenzie, that’s exactly what happens.

And once you’ve seen a sky like that, it’s hard not to look at every other one a little differently.

Save this for later. Or share it with someone who’d stop and look up with you.

Don’t worry, be happy.

Finland has just been named the happiest country in the world. Again. Nine years running.

At this point, it feels less about the headline and more about what sits behind it.

The factors are consistent. High levels of trust, reliable public systems, close access to nature and a culture that protects time.

Nothing ground-breaking or exaggerated. Just a way of living that supports everyday wellbeing.

And it’s not just Finland. 7 of the world’s top 10 happiest countries are places we know well, from Iceland to Norway and across the Nordics.

Different destinations with similar rhythms.

Spend time in places like these and that rhythm becomes very clear, very quickly.

Maybe that’s worth paying attention to.
