Well that’s January almost done, so we’re getting ready to welcome our very first visitors of the 2026 season when we reopen tomorrow.

The Castle, Coffee Shop and Gift Shop will all be opening on Sunday 1st of February at 10.00am. 😊

Eilean Donan Castle sits on a tiny island at the meeting point of three sea lochs — Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh.
This strategic position made it one of the Highlands’ most important strongholds for over 700 years, especially for the Clan Mackenzie.

The castle you see today is actually a reconstruction completed in 1932. After being destroyed in the Jacobite Rising of 1719, it lay in ruins for nearly 200 years until Lt. Col. John MacRae-Gilstrap spent two decades rebuilding it stone by stone — even adding the iconic arched bridge.
