Nice tour for Invergordon Bus Tours from the Scotland's busiest Cruise Port in Invergordon. On Saturday was the arrival of Mein Schiff 5. We had a very friendly group of Germans and we visited the Loch Ness exhibition Centre. Commentary in German which was great. Then on to Inverness for a 2 hour stop. The tour coincided with World Whisky Day, so naturally a few drams were consumed. This small group went a step further and purchased Old Pulteney, Dalmore and Glenlivet! Safe trip back to Hamburg and thanks for being such a great group.

Latest trip was taking our Links House team on an off road bike ride around the Kyle of Sutherland. Here is a summary of what happened! First pic is the climb from Bonar into the lovely Balblair Woods. Pant pant! After a few miles biking through the woods, we crossed the Oykel Viaduct, built in the 1860s. Would love to have seen how they built these amazing constructions in that period. Brave souls no doubt. Then to Carbisdale Castle. Was built after the Duke of Sutherland divorced his wife in the late 19th century - for the spurned lady! Was home to the Norweigan Royal Family during WW2 and was then a Youth Hostel until the 1990s. Recently purchased by someone very rich (we believe) and currently under renovation - great news. Then into the Carbisdale Woods - can you believe that a civil war battle took place here in 1650. The Earl of Montrose with Orcadians and Danish and German mercaneries were routed by a Highland force. 200 Orcadians drowned near the Viaduct, fleeing the battle. The Highlanders hunted down the mercaneries almost to a man over the next 2 days. I guess we are lucky to live in more civilised times!! We can bike through the woods rather than fight another man to the death! However our ride was not without incident. I had to issue a 'red card' to our Portuguese chef Joni - for not only sabotaging his own bike but trying to knock me off the trail. Young Ryan was also issued with a 'yellow card' for over exuberance and gross disturbance of the scottish wildlife - of which we saw little. Oh yes there was a glimpse of a small haggis in the woodline, eyeing us suspiciously. A great day out with a rather nutty bunch of Food and Beveragers.

Conducted my first tour of the season from the Cruise Centre at Invergordon this week on behalf of Invergordon Bus Tours. Nice Swiss couple. Loch Ness, Inverness and finally Cawdor Castle. Good to have the kilt back on again!

The North Highlands is the stunning northern outpost of Scotland and the UK. It is a land of incredible geology, rugged coastlines, pristine beaches, Munro's and Corbett's, gushing salmon rivers, forest and farmland, world-class golf courses and whisky galore. Amongst all this is a fascinating and long history from prehistoric Celtic people, to Picts and Gaels, Vikings and clans to modern day Scotland. This history is related in various attractions from stone circles to castles and battle sites such as Culloden near Inverness. History, Food and Drink, Wildlife and Nature, Golf and Adventure Sports - there is something for everyone.

Wonderful trip up to Glencalvie Estate yesterday on a mild 12 degree mid Feb day. Greeted on arrival on River Carron bridge by a large red squirrel! Then on my 6 mile walk saw hundreds of deer all species including Red, Sika and Roe. The house was built in late 19 the century by the Perrins family of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce). This shall be known now as my Lea & Perrins hike and on conclusion of the hike guests will be treated to a perfectly made bloody Mary on the banks of the Carron river.
