Seaforde Gardens and Tropical Butterfly House are situated in the historic demesne of Seaforde in County Down, Northern Ireland, which has been a family home for almost 400 years. Enjoy the experience and beauty of free-flying tropical butterflies as you walk through the steamy jungle of the butterfly house; or have a go at finding your way to the centre of Ireland's oldest maze or climb the Moghu

l Tower and survey the walled garden from above or simply relax and enjoy the extraordinary collection of trees and plants within Seaforde's renowned gardens. Seaforde Gardens also have tearooms, a Butterfly House shop and a children's playground.

It's a feast for the eyes AND ears in the Butterfly House. Listen and you may hear the courtship displays of the cracker butterflies. The males make a distinctive cracking sound with their wings to attract a mate and deter other rivals.

The 2025 season begins today! We're open this morning from 10am and every day until the end of September! Whatever the weather, come and enjoy the tropical climate of the Butterfly House and experience the colour and fluttering delight of exotically patterned butterflies or take your time to explore the historic gardens and maze.

We are counting down the days! The Gardens and Butterfly House reopen for the season this Friday, 18th April. Come and see beautiful blue morpho butterflies in flight among tropical foliage. Watch the peacocks do a train-rattle dance to attract a peahen. Find your way to the centre of Ireland's oldest living maze. Stop for refreshments at The Garden House Café. From Friday, open 7 days a week until the end of September (cafe open 7 days a week during school holidays).

It's the final weekend of our season! One last chance to enter a tropical microclimate and see colourful butterflies galore. Meander round the maze. Enjoy the autumnal sights of our trees changing colour. Hang out with the peacocks. We're open every day until 5pm on Monday 30th September. The Garden House cafe is open on Saturday and Sunday.

The summer holidays are the perfect time to come and visit the Butterfly House and Gardens. Bring your little ones (and big ones) and let the Butterfly House transport you to tropical climes with its colourful butterflies and lush plants. Find your way to the centre of the maze. Bring a picnic or visit the Garden House Cafe which is now open 7 days a week serving coffees, teas, light lunches, sweet treats and ice creams. That's your day out sorted.
