Hidden Faces of Balvaird Castle 🏰🗿

Look closely at the corners of Balvaird Castle’s rooftop and you’ll discover something fascinating—stone-carved faces peering out from the battlements.
These are corbels, intricately carved in red sandstone, originally used to support the corner turrets and the wall-walk above. 🧱

What makes them even more intriguing? 🤔 Many believe these faces were repurposed from older ecclesiastical buildings, blending sacred art with fortified stonework. A rare blend of mystery, history, and medieval craftsmanship tucked away in plain sight.
