There’s always more to an adventure than rivers and mountains.

This bottle of w**e was made at the vineyard of a friend of mine here in Montenegro. He’s created the vineyard with his family, and this particular w**e is named after his mum — which makes sitting here enjoying a bottle overlooking the river feel even more special.

These are exactly the places and stories we look for when putting together Alexander Adventures trips.

Yes, we want to take you down incredible rivers, into the mountains and to places that make you stop and stare. But we also want you to meet the people who live there, eat the local food, discover the little family-run places and enjoy experiences you probably wouldn’t find travelling on your own.

A family vineyard. A bottle of w**e with a story behind it. Local food. Good conversation. And an incredible Montenegro evening overlooking the river.

That’s adventure travel to us.

Day one in the Tara Gorge, Montenegro.

What a place to spend a day on the water.

White-water rafting and kayaking through crystal-clear water, surrounded by some absolutely incredible scenery — and a great team enjoying every minute of it.

Today we’re back on the river for our second and final day, so I’ll put together a bit of film once we’re finished.

And after spending more time paddling here, I’m convinced we need to run a white-water kayaking trip in Montenegro.

Yesterday I managed to get out white water kayaking on the Tara River here in Montenegro… and it got me thinking.

I reckon it’s time Alexander Adventures ran a proper White Water Kayaking Week out here.

The Tara is absolutely stunning — crystal-clear water, blue skies, incredible mountain scenery and some brilliant Grade 2/3 white water.

It’s the sort of river where we can spend a full week actually developing your paddling rather than just chasing harder water.

We’d look at river running, reading water, breaking in and out, ferry gliding, choosing lines, confidence in moving water, plus white water safety and rescue skills — with plenty of time actually kayaking.

And when we’re off the river, this place is pretty special too.

Great local food, riverside lodges, relaxed evenings and some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. It feels like a proper adventure, but Montenegro is only a few hours from the UK.

You wouldn’t need to be an expert white water kayaker either. If you’ve got basic kayaking skills and want to progress onto Grade 2/3 white water, we can work with that — and we could even put on a UK training day beforehand if people wanted it.

I’m thinking September, small group, around 6–8 paddlers, with myself leading the week.

Kayaks and equipment available, or if you love your own boat and kit, bring it with you.

Before we start putting dates and logistics together, though, I want to see if there’s actually interest.

Nepal is open, and the cancellations are hurting people the flood never reached.

Here is the honest picture. The water came down one valley in Rasuwa on 26 August. Langtang, Gosainkunda, the Tamang Heritage Trail and Helambu are closed or restricted, and the overland route to Kailash is out. Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Mustang, Dolpo and Kanchenjunga are open and running their autumn season as planned.

That season matters more than most people realise. September to November brings close to 40 percent of Nepal's visitors for the whole year. For a guiding family, a trip cancelled out of caution does more damage than the water did.

And the money goes where you would want it to. Permits, teahouses, porters, jeep drivers, the kitchen in the village you stop in for lunch. It skips the middle and reaches households within days.

Nepal has been part of Joe's life for more than twenty years. The guides, porters and drivers became a second family. If you have been putting a Nepal trip off, this is the year to book it.

That's the verified total on the page this morning. Actual money from actual people, and more than three times where we were after the first night.

Twenty-two per cent of the way to £10,000, and Joe hasn't taken a single step yet.

On Saturday 26 September he starts walking at Carlisle Castle at eight o'clock at night and doesn't stop until he reaches the Tyne Bridge. No overnight stop. No sleep. He's doing it for the people of Nepal, because the flooding hit the districts where our guides, drivers and their families live.

You can walk a section with him on the Sunday. Or you can simply give.
