🌳 The Silent Giants of Burnhopeside Hall 🌳

Some of the oldest residents at Burnhopeside Hall don’t stay in the house… they stand proudly in the grounds.

These magnificent trees have witnessed generations come and go, quietly watching over the estate through changing seasons, celebrations, and centuries of history. Their sculptural trunks, twisting branches and hidden hollows each tell a story that words can scarcely capture.

Whether you’re enjoying your morning coffee beneath their canopy, listening to birdsong in the afternoon, or simply taking a peaceful stroll through the gardens, there’s something wonderfully calming about being surrounded by these ancient giants.

Every visit reveals something new—a different texture, a hidden nook, a shaft of sunlight filtering through the branches. They remind us to slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate the beauty that only time can create.

We feel incredibly privileged to share these remarkable trees with our guests and hope they’ll inspire the same sense of wonder they give us every single day.

With the Hall and Cottage fully occupied by a lovely family gathering for an extended holiday, Andy,James and I spent another day tackling the old barns and began to create my office space.

The historical treasures we are finding are out of this world. We unearthed the old bar-top which had been kept from the days of Hall being a hotel. We also found Grans old sewing machine….. now anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE a project, especially one with so much history and sentimental value…. So combining these two wonderful finds is right up my street… watch this space!! 🥰🥰

Friday evenings were made for this… 🥂✨

The dogs are enjoying one last run across the fields, the sun is beginning to soften over the Durham countryside, and there’s a chilled glass of ch*****ne waiting on the terrace.

At Burnhopeside Hall, it’s the simple moments that become the most memorable—wide open views, peaceful surroundings, and time spent with the people (and four-legged friends) you love most.
