So everyone, thank you all for following and supporting Warrior II Sportfishing Looe. I am doing a FEW selected days on Poseidon out of Looe this Summer which includes the Shark Festival. I will continue updates but on my personal page and will close this FB page over the next few days. Tight lines. 🦈🍺

So I did say last season was my last commercial charter season and just to let you all know that Warrior II is now sold (she went in January) but may be back in Looe later in the year but she does have a new owner and will be a new business with nothing to do other Myself or Dave. I must say that I have met and become friends with a lot of you lovely people and thank you all sincerely for a wonderful near forty years of the charter/shark angling business ❤️🦈. I do intend to do a few (stand in days on other boats this year but it really will be a few). I will leave the page open for a couple of weeks in case anyone wants a photo or two from it.
Thanks again everyone, it’s been a blast, and don’t forget — keep your tackle clean 😊.

So just over a month since I last posted folks and what a few weeks it’s been !! What a way to finish my charter fishing career ! We had Dave’s boys down and they equalled the boat record (23) Blues including a lovely qualifier for Adam 👏. The end of September the gates opened and the sharks were plentiful although the weather was awful until the last week or so. Line records have fallen this year and we have bombarded our dear Secretary Claire with no less than 5 record claims. Our own Dave having one of the best Blues aboard Warrior II only a couple of weeks ago (120lb) on 30lb line just to be beaten by Toby Dixon 8 days later to have a stunning 150+ lb female fish last week. In October we’ve done 6 days sharking and had 60 sharks to the boat - a good last hurrah ehh ?
The last couple of days we’ve been reef fishing and although the Pollack weren’t playing lots of other species were caught. So my lovely fishy people that seems to be that. A couple of serious enquiries for the sale of Warrior II an we’ll keep you all informed of the next chapter. Keep safe, and please - keep your tackle clean 😂. That’s it for now from me and Dave. Warrior II Sportfishing Looe. 🦈🦈👍👍🎣

What’s this 2 posts in 4 days ??? Oh yes ! So Steve had his glorious day Friday, that evening I got a cancellation for the Monday and agreed the forecast was too risky to travel 300 miles just to be told - no, sorry we’re not going out 😩. Then Saturday it started to get better by the hour and I started to send messages to ask if anyone wanted or could get aboard Monday, well there’s a lot of busy people that couldn’t get away (I know it was very last minute) anyway with our Dave and 2 others off we went this morning, a bit of a bumpy old ride out but we got there and managed a quick bait catching 10 minutes. Out went the lines and within 1/2 hour on came the first shark ! We had 1 on the line and 2 round the boat and from then on it was fairly continuous till just after 12 so we had a quick cuppa and off again 😁. We finished the day with 17 inc one ‘over’ around 80+ lb. A great day done. Off tomorrow then back out Wednesday. Looking awfully windy for rest of the week after that so catch up with other things on the list. We have had some of the bigger sharks with the familiar red dots on their underside and one of the bigger sharks had another long line hook (which we removed) before tag and release.

So - what an awful year we’re having ! If it’s not the lack of sharks it’s the bloody windy weather !!!! We haven’t been out the harbour in 10 days as the wind has not dropped below a force 6 since a week last Monday and although the bigger boats have done very well over the 10 days it’s been quite painful to be stuck in while they have been getting the most productive days of the year so far BUT today we’re back out and got amongst some lovely Blues but it started not so well as the first shark took a brand new mackerel set on the drop for our Steve Chivers (who should have been out every day since Tuesday) but was soon rectified with a first blue shark of around 25lb but was followed swiftly by bigger fish ! We had 1 shark around the boat for nearly 3 hrs but annoyingly wouldn’t take a bait. She did succumb in the end but the last 3 sharks were certainly the highlights. Sharks of 75, 85 and 100lb came to the boat and Steve handled them all well on 16lb test line.
Hopefully the 100lb er will beat his previous record fish. The shark that was hanging around for a long time finally managed to destroy the rubby bag. So a great day aboard Warrior II but it looks very much like another period of being tied up as the windy stuff returns tomorrow 😩😩😩

That’s a bit better !! Sharking yesterday on the last day of our family get together. Spent 2 days at Rosemellyn carp fishery, me, Helen, her Brother and sister in law, had some lovely carp and so many laughs (thanks to Steve the bailiff for his help and advice). Then out sharking yesterday, Steve my Brother in Law hadn’t been sharking for about 10 years and wanted a day with us this year, as it’s the last one with Warrior II. Everyone caught sharks and although there were no monsters it was a great day with 7 sharks to the boat. We’ve now got 3 very windy days but hope to be back at it on Tuesday next and hoping the better numbers continue 🙏🏼. Looking forward to seeing those of you that have yet to visit and praying the weather is kind for the back end of the season. Tight lines.

Sharks still not playing nicely but there is signs of improvement now ! We have also done a bit of reef fishing with some success I’m pleased to report. We’ve also had some amazing visitors out there including a very friendly pod of pilot whales as you will see.
This season (as I have told some of you) will be my last as skipper of Warrior II and as a full time charter skipper and although I intend to go to sea and in some way still be involved with the Shark Fishing out of Looe I am officially retiring at the end of bookings in October. This now means that it will be our last commercial trips with many of you. Drew and Tom were in this situation this week and seems a bit strange saying goodbye to anglers and friends I have taken fishing for many years. Fingers crossed we can have a busing rest of the year 👍🦈🦈.

Firstly, let me apologise for the lack of post’s ladies and gentlemen. It’s been a very up and down start to the season. Great start in June, then ‘The Algae/Plankton bloom and no sharks’ (the remnants of which we stumble into occasionally). A very good Shark Festival for some with 3 Thresher sharks hooked and overall 73 sharks, caught, measured, tagged and released. Just had Chris and the guys down for their 2 days and did manage 2 and lost 1 Friday but blanked yesterday. The weather hasn’t been great with several days lost. A surprise visitor on Friday, Ryan said - what’s this fish that pops out from under the boat ? After a few games of hide and seek, he tried and succeeded in catching it - it was a Stone Bass/Wreck fish the like of which I haven’t seen for 15 yrs +. After a quick photograph popped him back in. Let us hope that the season kicks off big time from now on 🤞🙏🏼. We did see the first shoal of Bluefin Tuna last week so they are on their way. Tight lines and looking forward to your visits. 🦈🦈🦈🦈

As you've probably seen by this week's posts, the sharks are here (4) yesterday and 8 for 3 trips this week. I've had the whole of next weekend cancelled due to illness of people I've had before so if anyone wants the boat for Saturday or Sunday or both get in touch. If there is interest I will make a singles trip up. 🦈👍

I am very pleased to announce! We have started Ladies and gentlemen !! We did our first shark trip today and at 12.20 away went the reel, a shortish battle ensued (Dave was on 16lb line today) and a 45lb ish female Blue was the first to grace our landing mat this year. We were both feeling well happy to have had our first shark. We had a celebration cup of tea and just settling down when off it went again !!! Is it really the 10th of June ? Yes it is and our David has a different kettle of fish on this time 😁🦈. 30 minutes and the second time holding the trace we had her, a beautiful Female Blue shark measuring 72” x 32” coming out on the formula as 92lb (give or take). We didn’t have anymore but so delighted to be up and running, let’s hope it continues this sort of form. The bait was —— non existent, I’m sorry to report but it can only get better 🙏🏼🤞. Here are a few piccies of today’s action. Fingers crossed for Thursday’s weather.

A bit more news - good and bad really, just had 2 tags returned, 1st caught on the 21/07/24 and the 2nd on 29/08/24. Both sharks boarded and measured, carefully unhooked, tagged and returned by us. Both fish travelled around 670 NM. Before being caught and killed by commercial long liners . They certainly have to 'run the gauntlet ☹️..
