Eastbourne Lifeboat has returned to station after being tasked earlier today by HM Coastguard Solent to a report of a small boat in the Channel, south of the UK’s central south coast.

HM Coastguard said rescue vessels were sent, supported by a Coastguard aircraft, to assist those on board and safely transfer them to UK Border Force.

Hastings Lifeboat has is alo on route and as of 20:30 passing Seaford bay .

It is important to be clear: RNLI lifeboats respond to people in danger at sea, regardless of who they are or how they came to be there. They are tasked by the Coastguard and their role is to preserve life at sea. The RNLI does not determine immigration policy and is not part of the political process.

When called upon by HM Coastguard, RNLI crews respond to those who need help at sea.
