The UK's most popular castles (Part 2) 👑
🏰 Culzean Castle, Scotland: Perched on the Ayrshire cliffs, this 18th-century masterpiece blends grand interiors with subtropical gardens and sweeping views over the Firth of Clyde.
Top tip: President Eisenhower was gifted an apartment here after WWII as a thank you from the UK. Keep an eye out for the Eisenhower exhibition inside!
🏰 Tintagel Castle, England: Where myth and history collide on the Cornish cliffs. This dramatic ruin has long been tied to the legend of King Arthur, and standing on the headland, it's not hard to see why.
Top tip: At low tide, head down to Merlin's Cave beneath the headland.
🏰 Dover Castle, England: Standing guard over the English Channel for centuries, this castle is history in layers - medieval keeps, a Roman lighthouse, and the secret WWII tunnels used to coordinate the Dunkirk evacuation.
Top tip: On a clear day you can see the coast of France from the clifftops!
🏰 Corfe Castle, England: A jagged, partially ruined fortress rising dramatically out of the Purbeck Hills. Its silhouette alone is worth the trip.
Top tip: The steam train from Swanage is a brilliant way to arrive, with beautiful views of the castle as you pull in.
🏰 Crathes Castle, Scotland: A 16th-century hidden gem tucked away in Aberdeenshire, charming visitors with its fairytale turrets, rare painted ceilings and unhurried atmosphere.
Top tip: The painted ceilings inside are among the best preserved in Scotland, don't rush past them!
