Corra Foundation

Corra Foundation Corra is a Scottish grant-making charity that is about strengthening and amplifying people’s voices and their power to make change.

For 30 years, the Corra Foundation has contributed to improving the lives of individuals and communities experiencing disadvantage all across Scotland and in developing countries. Our vision is for a society in which people create positive change and enjoy fulfilling lives. We have four strategic objectives to fulfil this:

To be the best grant maker we can be – Grant making is at the heard of wha

t we do and we want to do it as well as possible, with an open and accessible approach. To get alongside communities – We are working differently, including with communities we don’t historically reach, and others with a big appetite for change. To share expertise – We will use our 30+ years experience in grant making to support others. Partnership – We want to make a bigger difference to people by working together with others.

Now off to the Borders for the next Boost Fund community story, where we visit Coldstream Community Larder - Scottish Borders and their award-winning organic garden. They run a vibrant community space that is focused on all things zero-waste and sustainability – saving 10 tons of food annually that would otherwise go to landfill, redistributing this to local families and community members with the motto !

The Boost Fund is currently open, providing grants of up to £3000 to help support local people across Scotland affected by poverty or disadvantage.

Coldstream Community Larder: Boost Fund support helps reduce food waste and support local families in Coldstream.

We are thrilled to be taking part in the upcoming Village Storytelling Festival at The Boardwalk, Glasgow from 3rd to 6th June. This year we will be involved in two events:

✨Symposium: Storytelling for Change (Thursday 4th June 10am-4pm)

As part of the symposium, we will be delivering an interactive presentation: Stories for Social Justice – The Practical Implementation of Storytelling with People Whose Voices Are Least Heard.

This session is designed to provide practical information around approaches to building a successful project with participants whose voices are not often heard. This workshop will profile a Village Storytelling Centre project which was commissioned by The Corra Foundation to share and platform stories from Birth Parents whose child(ren) had been permanently removed from their care. We will share insights from both Creative Practitioner and Funders perspectives on the real world application of this work and the impact that it has had.

You can find out more about the symposium and book your pass here:https://www.villagestorytelling.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/VSF-26-Symposium-Programme.pdf

✨Supporting Birth Parents (Thursday 4th June 4.15pm)

Having a child taken into care can be an extremely traumatic experience. It has a profound impact on the child, birth parents and their families. In 2025 the Village Storytelling Centre and Unlabelled Films were commissioned by Corra Foundation to work with Birth Parents groups across Scotland to listen, reflect and help share these stories which are so rarely heard.

Join storyteller Lauren Bianchi, Corra’s Rowan Anderson as they present and discuss three important films developed with Birth Parents and ask for compassion and change.

This is a FREE event but please book to ensure your space. Find out more here: https://www.villagestorytelling.org.uk/festival/event/supporting-birth-parents/

We’ll be posting some new communities stories on the blog over the next few weeks, sharing more about projects, organisations and small charities which have received support from the Boost Fund.

We’re starting off by spotlighting Baraka Community and Family Centre based in Clydebank. Baraka began as a grassroots initiative led by local residents who believed in the power of community connection, recognising that many families in the community were facing isolation, digital exclusion, and limited access to support services. The Family Hub has become a consistent, trusted point of connection for families across Glasgow.

Learn more also about their experience of applying to Boost, which is currently open to applications and provides small grants to community-led organisations supporting local people affected by poverty or disadvantage.

Recognising that culturally responsive care is essential to children’s safety, wellbeing, and rights, Project Esperanza have developed the Cultural Connections Kit and Project Esperanza Charter for Racialised Communities.

Project Esperanza received Scottish Government Funding through Corra's Promise Partnership Fund to shape this work. On the Corra blog this week they share more about these tools which are helping to support the culture, heritage and identity of racialised children and young people involved in child protection or the care system.

The kit contains culturally relevant items that support personal care, hair care, heritage, and cultural diet - supporting wellbeing, reducing isolation and helping to build trust with professionals. By also embedding the principles in Project Esperanza Charter, services can reduce mistrust and create more collaborative safeguarding relationships.

Project Esperanza recommends that public services, local authorities and care providers use these tools in order to be better equipped to deliver culturally competent care.

You’ll find a link to the Charter and details on how to purchase the Culture Connections Kit at the new blog below! 👏
