After months of preparation, last month we saw a last minute cancellation of a US youth jazz band visit to Cuba. The trip was called off the very afternoon before the 21 young musicians were due to fly to Havana to start an intensive 5 day programme. Comments from our March 2025 Cuba dance holiday in Santiago de Cuba: 'Our tour leader Alex was a diamond. An amazing intelligence and brilliant facilitator. A person to laugh and converse with. How easy he made our adventure. His network is mind blowing and we wouldn't have experienced as much as we did without him. The Festival de La Trova, OMG still blown away by the amount of supreme artistes we heard. Never have I experienced such quality before at a festival.
The nights out were loads of fun. Even when I couldn't replicate the degree of precision with the dance steps as well as I could in lessons, our lovely dance partners were so kind and encouraging. Thanks Kath all your work has given me a new perspective on life, new friends, memories to cherish. Amazing trip.'

Santiago de Cuba gets ready for 40th International Jazz Plaza Festival in late January 2025.
The organizing committee of Jazz Plaza in Santiago de Cuba announced that it is working on the creation of a wide and varied programme with cultural galas, discussions, daily concerts and community activities. The opening gala will be held at the Heredia Theatre with a concert by the 'Estrellas del Buena Vista Social Club y Más' project, and with the presentation of the Camaguay Folklore Company from Camagüey. The closing ceremony will be held in the open in the centrally located Plaza de Marte.

The Casa Granda Hotel will host an event to pay tribute to the outstanding trumpeter Pepín Vaillant. Events will also be taking place in Sala Dolores, the Jutia Conga Patio of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Café Teatro Macubá, Salón del Son, El Ingenio Cultural Center, Caguayo Foundation and the Santa Úrsula neighborhood.
