Our expert guides will help you soak up the very best of Scotland’s culture, which most definitely includes the unmistakable sound of the Great Highland bagpipes.

Many villages host lively local piping events throughout the summer, where pipe bands gather to rehearse for upcoming tournaments. These informal displays often happen in village greens or local parks, creating a fantastic atmosphere filled with music, tradition, and community spirit.

💙 These events are always a highlight for our guests — a joyful, authentic slice of Scottish life that you might miss without a knowledgeable guide.

This year marks 125 years since the iconic Steamship Sir Walter Scott first set sail on Loch Katrine — and she’s still going strong! Launched in 1900, this elegant Victorian steamship offers one of Scotland's most scenic and nostalgic boat trips, gliding through the Trossachs landscape that inspired so much of Scott’s writing.

But the ship is just part of Sir Walter Scott’s enduring legacy. The great Scottish author and poet shaped how the world sees Scotland — romantic, rugged, and rich in legend. His works rekindled national pride and helped put Scotland on the map as a cultural destination.

📍Other places to explore the legacy of Walter Scott:

🏰 Abbotsford House – His grand Borders home, filled with books, antiques, and curiosities collected by Scott himself.
📚 Scott Monument, Edinburgh – The largest monument to a writer in the world, soaring above Princes Street Gardens.
🌄 Loch Katrine & The Trossachs – The setting for The Lady of the Lake made this area a must-see in the 19th century and helped kick-start Scottish tourism - with a newly opened tower to mark the spot where he was inspired to write the landmark poem.
🏛️ Scott’s View – A favourite spot of the author near Melrose, offering sweeping views across the Borders countryside.
🗿 Statue at Glasgow’s George Square – One of many across Scotland honouring his contribution to literature and national identity.

From historic homes to misty lochs and literary landmarks, a tour following Scott’s footsteps reveals much about Scotland’s cultural soul.

📆 Planning a trip? Let us take you on a bespoke tour celebrating Sir Walter Scott’s Scotland — stories, scenery, and steamships included!

This is a great picture from Les, one of our Blue Badge Driver Guides. It’s of the bronze resin sculptures of the geologists Benjamin Peach (seated on a stone bench) and John Horne (standing) posed as if in conversation. You’ll find this at Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve along the North Coast 500 route in the North West Highlands.

Set against a dramatic rocky backdrop, this spot marks one of the most important geological sites in the world. Their research helped prove that older rocks had been pushed over younger ones by tectonic forces — a discovery that shook the scientific world then!

Our driver guides will take you to visit some of Scotland's gems like this.
