What you wear for your photo session matters more than you might think. 🍂

The colours you choose can completely change the feel of your photographs, especially during autumn.

You do not need to match. Instead, choose colours that work naturally together and with the surroundings.

Warm browns, rust, cream, beige, olive green and muted reds all photograph beautifully at this time of year. 🍁

I usually recommend keeping things simple and avoiding large logos, neon colours and very busy patterns. This keeps the attention on you rather than your clothes.

But there is one thing that matters even more — you need to feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing.❤️

Because when you feel good, it shows in your photographs🌿.

6 Edinburgh locations I love for photo sessions 🌿

Each one gives you a completely different feel, which is why I love having so much choice in one city.

Dean Village for old streets and quiet corners.
Victoria Street for colour and character.
The Vennel for one of my favourite castle views.
Holyrood Park for open space and nature.
Calton Hill for wide city views.
Princes Street Gardens for greenery and another beautiful view of the castle.

One little tip if you would like photos in these places: come early.

Around 8–9am is usually my favourite time, especially in summer. There are fewer people around and much more space to enjoy the city 😍.

If you love nature, Arthur's Seat is one of the places you should not miss when visiting Edinburgh. 🌿

It is amazing that just a short walk from the busy city centre you can find peaceful paths, open hills, and some of the best views in the city.
Whether you are visiting on your own, as a couple, or with your family, it is such a lovely way to spend a few hours outdoors.

One of my favourite things about a city photo session is that there is no rush. 🌿

We can wander through the streets, stop for a coffee or even grab an ice cream🍦.

Those unplanned moments often become part of the story. Children have a chance to recharge, everyone relaxes, and the session feels much more natural.

Some of my favourite photos have been taken while people were chatting over a coffee or enjoying an ice cream together 🥰.

Edinburgh has so many lovely places for a photo session, but if you are looking for something a little different, Old Penicuik House is a wonderful option. 🌿

The old ruins, woodland paths, and open spaces make it a lovely place for a relaxed photo session.

I have photographed here on sunny days, misty mornings, and in winter, and every visit has felt completely different. It is amazing how much one place can change with the weather.

The best time to visit Edinburgh's most popular spots is earlier than most people think…
If you are hoping to enjoy places like The Vennel, Victoria Street, Grassmarket, or the Royal Mile without the crowds, I always recommend an early start.
Around 8am is my favourite time. The city feels quieter, the morning light is beautiful, and there is much more space to enjoy everything 🌿.

By 10am, especially during summer, these places can already be much busier.
If you can set your alarm just once during your trip, I think it is well worth it 😉.

One of the questions I get asked most often is, "What should we wear for our photo session?"

The answer is actually quite simple.
Choose colours that are natural. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, gentle blues, greens, and warm browns all photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you, not your clothes ✨.
I usually recommend avoiding large logos, bright neon colours, and clothing with lots of bold patterns. They can draw attention away from the people in the photo.

The most important thing, though, is to wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. When you feel like yourself, it always shows in your photos.

I put together a few colour palettes that work really well if you are looking for a little inspiration🌿.
