Last week, we hosted our Global Induction, bringing together student leaders from Scotland, Malaysia, and Dubai to talk all things students and Heriot-Watt. 🌍

From lived experiences to surveys like the Big 6, we’ve listened and together we’ve set out Global Priorities for the year ahead.

🌊 Did you know over 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans every year?

Today is , a good moment to think about how we can cut down on single-use plastics, starting from our campus.

Here are a few small steps we have taken to help:

🥤 New edible straws and bowls are now available in Libertys – yep, you can eat them!
💧 We’ve also introduced Bottle Up – a plant-based, refillable water bottle made from sugarcane.
🛍️ And if you’re still on the hunt for a reusable water bottle, the Student Shop has you covered.

Small swaps, big difference. 🌍💙

How does it work? 🧐If you have any old textbooks, calculators, or stationary packs you can now drop them off at our building and we will pass them on to the future Class of 2025/26.

🗣Call for Volunteers! We need some people to help with clearing the donation stations from the halls on Saturday 7th June.
By doing this you will be helping the UniRecycle team, and you will get a nice FREE lunch! Who could say no to some free food?

We have Sebi giving you the rundown of all the good your donations do for the charities. 😊

If you're still in halls, remember to donate. You can donate unwanted cookware (pots and pans), food (non-perishables) and kitchenware. 🥣
Donating these will not only help to keep these items out of landfills, but also you will be helping future students get a good start next semester!
