Caldon Cottage - self catering holidays and boat moorings in the Staffordshire Moorlands Up to 2 well behaved dogs are welcomed.

Explore the Staffordshire Moorlands and the Potteries of Stoke-on-Trent from this spacious cottage overlooking the Caldon Canal, close to the Peak District and Alton Towers. Caldon Cottage sleeps 10 people in five waterway-themed bedrooms (2 double, 3 twin), with 3 bedrooms on the ground floor. 2 of the bedrooms have en suite facilities. There is a fully equipped kitchen and adjacent dining area

which comfortably seats 10 people. The kitchen includes a large fridge/freezer, AGA Rangemaster cooker, microwave, Belfast sink, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, a full inventory of cooking equipment and local and vintage ceramics from The Potteries. The large sitting room has a Mediterranean feel to it, with comfy seating for 10. The bifold doors provide open access out on to the garden during warmer months, while the log burner makes for a cosy time when it’s colder outside. Upstairs is a games room with smart TV, DVD player and further comfortable seating, and a well-stocked games cupboard for keeping guests entertained during the evenings. For families with very young children there is a travel cot and a high chair, and the games room features “Toddler Corner” with suitable toys. On the edge of the Peak District, Endon makes an excellent base for exploring the hills and valleys of the national park. The market town of Leek is just 5 miles away, and it’s a half hour drive through the beautiful countryside to get to Alton Towers 17 miles away. This is a great base if you are interested in exploring railways and canals, with the Caldon Canal on the doorstep and the Trent & Mersey Canal a few miles away. The Churnet Valley Railway and Rudyard Lake Steam Railway are both less than 5 miles away, and slightly further afield is the Foxfield Railway and the Apedale Valley Light Railway. Stoke-on-Trent is famous for its Potteries, and many of them have visitor centres, tea rooms and hands-on studios making for a great day out. There are various museums and visitor centres in the local area, and two National Trust properties nearby , Biddulph Grange and Little Moreton Hall, 20 mins and 25 mins away respectively. There are 3 pubs in easy walking distance – one half a mile away, another two within ¾ mile (and many more accessible on foot along footpaths or the adjacent canal towpath). Just 10 minutes walk away is The Endon Railway Tearoom, serving tea and coffee, cakes and filled Staffordshire Oatcakes (a local delicacy).

Spring has definitely sprung in the garden at Caldon Cottage with this beautiful Hellebore now flowering. Lots of other plants and wildlife to discover in the garden and along the Caldon Canal for our guests this year.

After (quite a while) of negotiations with CRT, we can finally announce "Caldon Cottage Moorings" are open for business! With 2 moorings already taken, this leaves 2 moorings still available, so spread the word if you know anyone looking for a mooring on the beautiful Caldon Canal at Endon. One mooring will take a boat up to 60ft with car parking adjacent to the mooring and space for a shed (but no facilities). The other mooring has room for up to 70ft with access to electric hook up, with parking available nearby. Both the moorings have access to a tap by moving the boat a short distance. The moorings are an easy bit of boating to CRT boaters' facilities at Park Lane. And they are walking distance from several good pubs in the villages of Stanley and Endon. Caldon Cottage, perfect for holidays and short breaks for up to 10 people, beside the Caldon Canal in the Staffordshire Moorlands, is filling up well for the rest of the year. We do, however, have some mid-week availability in June, so why not celebrate by booking your mid-week break now.

Joshua Day Boat Hire operates from just a couple of miles along the canal at Denford and makes a perfect day out while you are staying in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The boat takes up to 10 people, which by coincidence is also the number of people that we can sleep at Caldon Cottage, so there is room for your whole group!

“Joshua” is a 35 ft dayhire narrow boat which can take up to 10 people for self drive day trips, based at Denford just outside Leek on the Caldon Canal in the Staffordshire Peak District.
