What does a day look like on a horse riding holiday in Italy?🇮🇹

We’re running our 2nd ever hosted trip in Italy next year where we’ll be exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside and galloping along 8km of white sand.

But what do the days actually look like?

Mornings are slow, we wake and have breakfast at the villa before getting ready for the day’s adventure.

The days are exciting, with fast riding and beach canters. Even though it’s a shorter trip, the bond you make with your horse won’t be any less special.

We get to see the varied landscape of this beautiful part of Italy including forests, a national park and of course, the beach.

The days end in the slow manner that they began, as we say goodbye to the horses for the night and spend the evening with good food and good company.

Horse care:
+ The horses live out all year round in a herd on about 4 hectares of pasture. They’re balance, sociable and healthy, and they’re the heart of these holidays.

We’re heading to Tuscany, Italy next spring and you’ve got the opportunity to join us on this exploratory trip!🇮🇹🐎

Over the course of 3 days, we’ll gallop along 8km of golden sand, stay in a Tuscan villa and experience local and authentic Italian cuisine.

What’s included in a horse riding holiday?🐎⛰️

Whilst it differs per holiday and some operators may offer slightly different things, you’ll generally find all of these to be included on the Wild Mane website:

+ The horses and riding. This is always included and you never need to pay extra.

+ Accommodation during the trip. Only one of our operators charges an extra fee but this is covered by Wild Mane. Accommodation is covered for shared rooms so you do usually have to pay extra for your own.

+ Food during the trip. This is usually always included for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and operators never skimp out on treating you to delicious local food.

+ If activities are organised during the trip, they’ll generally be included. This could be anything from Chateaux visits in France to Seal Colony visits in Namibia.

+ Airport transfers. Most of our operators will pick you up and drop you off at the airport which makes the trip very easy logically. Some may pick you up from a more central location if the airport is a little further away, such as our departures in Iceland.

We always list what’s included and excluded in a riding holiday on our website so you never need to question if there will be any hidden fees.

NEW RIDES: WILD ICELAND🇮🇸🐎

We are super excited to have some Iceland itineraries back on the Wild Mane website and these are two truly exceptional rides!

For those that don’t know, Iceland is where everything started for Wild Mane. Where I discovered the magic of travelling on horseback and how unforgettable it is to bond not only with the horse you ride, but also the people you meet on the tour.

This Landmannalaugar tour has been voted as one of the 4 best riding holidays in the world and it lives up to that award. You’ll pass through fertile farmland, ride across lava fields and stay in authentic Icelandic mountain huts. It’s made all the more special by the herd of loose horses you get to experience the trip alongside.

The Snæfellsnes tour is an equally amazing tour that takes you to the coast and along Löngufjörur beach, a beautiful long stretch of white sand. You’ll tölt across the beach at low tide, followed again by a herd of loose horses. You’ll also get to experience the farmland and volcanic landscapes that Iceland is so well known for.

NEW RIDE: A winter in Romania❄️

We’re so excited to bring this special getaway to Wild Mane, a winter adventure like no other.

Snow covered mountains and frosty forests set the perfect scene for this winter escape. The Carpathian Mountains are a beautiful part of Romania and in the winter, the landscape takes on an entirely different character.

Your base for the week is a cosy guest house, surrounded by the hills and meadows of the Transylvanian countryside. Away from the busier tourist areas, the village offers a glimpse into rural Romania.

If you’re looking for something different this winter, this magical escape is the one for you!

+ 23rd - 30th January, 30th January - 6th February, 6th - 13th February, 13th - 20th February, 20th - 27th February

Horse care:
+ The horses live in 2 groups within open stables that have sand paddocks, allowing them the liberty to move around and socialise at will. Every horse gets 6 weeks of ‘holiday’ and regular breaks between rides. Their herd of over 40 horses includes mainly breeds of Hungarian origin.

It’s moments like these that make the trip what it is. Looking at the vast mountains around you, appreciating the craft of these hand built Yurts, noticing the stillness of the lake.

+ Nick’s horses live out 24/7, giving them the freedom to graze as they please. He never loans his horses out to other companies or shepherds and he enjoys finding ways to keep his horses’ sparks alive. There’s never more than 25km of riding done in one day to make sure his horses aren’t overworked.
