Pictured is the ancient stone circle Loupin Stanes; the stones stand just South of Eskdalemuir village and to the north of our cottages.
This monument is a very short distance from the cottages and forms part of the Prehistoric Trail in the Upper Esk Valley. In local verbal history it is said that young men would go "louping" or leaping between the stones to prove that they were full grown men. Something we don't encourage in the village today as more than a few locals have broken their legs over the years!!
This is one of two stone circles to explore during your stay with us.
