Was just remembering my 41 years in Cornwall & the boats I’ve owned so far.
Boats I’ve owned, since 1984:

◦ Tarlissa 16’ fishing boat, St ives, SS? - bought from Paul Osborne (Ozzy)’s brother & refurbed in John Stringer’s yard, increased the freeboard & went to MAFF at Newlyn to get a licence to catch mackerel, best ever was 98 stone, unfortunately only 20p per stone.
◦ Orion, Treeve 25, fishing & diving, SS273 - bought from Alfie Lugg 50/50 ownership with me dad. Lister ST2, tiller steering. Replaced engine twice: first with an STW3, hydraulic gearbox, then with a Lister Alpha. Wish we had kept the STW3. Great memories of catching mackerel with me dad, John Harry & all. Loads of diving wrecks off N Coast. This was the first boat my daughter, Alice ever stepped aboard.
◦ RIB 1 - black tubes, dive boat, can’t remember the name.
◦ RIB2 - Orange, from Nottingham, dive boat again. Ditto.
◦ RIB 3 - Orange - from the bloke that owned Dale’s Motors, best RIB I owned, only sold to get a hard boat, this was the Tamar 2000
◦ Hobbit, Cygnus 19
◦ Colvic Seaworker Gerrick, Mercedes diesel inboard
◦ Lady Jean, Fast fisher 26, bought from Sea Structures, Plymouth. AKA Sea Creatures!
◦ Lady Victoria, Mitchell 31, Mk2, fishing, diving & motor cruiser
◦ Lady Alice, Hardy 24 fast fisher
◦ Clarion, Hardy 24, fast fisher
◦ 16’ Fishing boat with outboard
◦ Plover, Plymouth Pilot 18
◦ Morpheus, Seaward 25, motor cruiser
◦ Magenta, Seaward 25, motor cruiser
◦ Magenta , Drascombe Lugger, 19’ sailing boat
◦ Perla, Channel Island 32, motor cruiser
◦ Yakima, Aquastar 38, motor cruise
Where has all that gone?

Recent improvements aboard Yakima have included a 4 camera CCTV system, looking aft, looking into the aft end of the engine room & one each looking at the forward end of each engine.

So, it’s that time of year.
The daffs are starting to show their heads down here in sunny Cornwall.
It’s the time of year when we start to think of the calm, sunny days ahead.
Boat time is becoming more of a reality than a dream.
If you are thinking of buying a boat, don’t be put off by the fact that your dream boat (sorry🙄) may be a good way away from your home port.
We can bring your dream home. With or without you onboard.
Enjoy 2025.

So, the decision has been made to part with Perla after almost 7 years of ownership. We are looking forward to getting Yakima up to the same standard & she will be in Falmouth Marina as soon as she is ready.
Perla is a fantastic boat & is ready to look after her new owners as she has looked after us since 2017.

“Yakima” - the story so far:

I arrived in Cherbourg yesterday, Thursday 22nd June, having left home the day before & spent a night in Poole, Dorset. During my 25 year service with the RNLI & during subsequent boat deliveries, I have spent many a night there.
The ferry from Poole, was a good trip of about 4.5hrs.
I was met at Cherbourg by Frédéric from https://www.ideal-yacht.com
He drove me to Carteret marina, around 30 miles, to show me “Yakima”, a 1999 Aquastar 38, which Cheryl & I were considering as a possible “upgrade” from “Perla”.
Fred spent considerable time yesterday showing me around the boat, including my inspection of all the engine room & bilge spaces along with a good look at the control systems & interior fit out.
While she is indeed a very good example of the marque, at a good price, I concluded that, at this time, we would be better served by keeping our trusted Channel Island 32, “Perla”.
Having spoken with Cheryl, I told Fred our decision last evening & then spent some time considering my options for getting back to Cherbourg!
Today we had been scheduled to take her (“Yakima”) for a sea trial, which I declined further to our decision the previous evening & not wanting to waste any more of Fred’s time.
Fred met me at the boat again this morning & we spent quite some time once again considering “Yakima, whilst testing her mechanical, electrical & electronic systems onboard.
Fred then drove me the 30 miles back to Cherbourg, where I spent the afternoon awaiting my ferry back to Poole.
The moral of the story is: if you are interested in a certain boat, go see her, wherever she is (within reason).
I would certainly recommend Fred’s services through Ideal-Yacht.Com & would be more than happy to deal with him in the future.
Here’s to the rest of the summer & some quality boating.
