Located at the entrance to the third largest harbour in the world, Falmouth’s strategic location led to the town being established as one of the most important packet ship ports in the UK from 1689 up until the mid-1800s. Today, the town retains its maritime importance offering sheltered waters for sailing and diving and regularly hosts sailing events such as the Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week and the

Pendennis Cup. As a university town, home to the college of art, design and media, the town has a creative buzz with many art galleries displaying contemporary works and venues showcasing independent films and live bands. During the day you can visit the waterfront villages up and down the estuary aboard one of the many ferries and pleasure cruises that leave from the harbour and when the sun goes down join locals and visitors alike who head for the lively seafood restaurants, bistros and wine bars. Falmouth is framed by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) along the Helford and Fal Rivers and Roseland Peninsula, located on the outstanding South West Coast Path, a magnet for walkers, picnickers and families alike. http://www.visitcornwall.com/destinations/falmouth
