โ ๏ธ WEATHER WARNING UPDATE TIMES, AREAS & CONDITIONS CHANGED โ ๏ธ
Powered by Trees and Bees Cornwall Ltd
The AMBER Weather Warning for Wind is now in force from 1600 until 2300 today.
๐ด Why the update?
The Met Office have increased the expected impact level after fresh data showed the potential for even stronger gusts in exposed areas.
The warning area has also been extended further east across Cornwall, now covering most of the north coast, as confidence grows in the potential for this event to become widespread and intense.
Whatโs coming with Storm Goretti?
Storm Goretti is expected to bring a short but extremely intense spell of north-westerly winds to the Isles of Scilly and parts of Cornwall this evening.
Peak gusts of 80โ100+ mph possible in exposed coastal and high ground locations. From a Northwesterly flow
Winds expected to strengthen rapidly, jumping from 30โ40 mph to potentially violent gusts
The most severe conditions may last 2โ4 hours before slowly easing
Even after the peak, strong and gusty winds will continue, with the broader YELLOW warning in force until Friday morning
Wind forecast (shipping-style guidance):
Winds are currently variable force 2 to 4, but quickly becoming cyclonic, strengthening to severe gale force 9 and then violent storm force 11,
with a chance of hurricane force 12 later, particularly in the most exposed marine and coastal locations.
Sea state & coastal conditions:
Sea conditions will deteriorate rapidly, with seas initially rough, becoming very rough or high in some areas.
This will lead to very large and powerful waves, making coastal conditions extremely dangerous.
Expect:
โขWave spray and shingle thrown onto roads and promenades
Hazardous conditions near cliff edges and sea fronts
A serious risk to life for anyone near exposed coasts
Right now the calm before the storm
At present, things may appear relatively quiet, but air pressure is falling fast, a classic warning sign that conditions will change quickly and aggressively over the next few hours.
Key safety reminders
Secure loose items now
Avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind hours
Stay well away from coastal edges and promenades
Be prepared for possible power cuts and disruptions
Weโll continue to monitor Storm Goretti closely and bring you further updates as soon as new data comes in.
Please take this seriously and stay safe.
Kind regards,
KWT Dave
