New book

Steve Reed grows up on the gritty Cowgate estate, where cowpats double as frisbees and the Town Moor is his playground. Amid poverty, an angry father, and a mother battling MS, Steve finds solace in Major the dog, schoolyard scraps, and the Rolling Stones’ rebellious beat. His memoir, The Sons...

Another bad result for Eddie and today against this time. Straight after a defeat and a miserable performance is never a time to analysis what’s wrong but..the PIF need to consider their next move. Back or sack? I’m always pro- Eddie but the project has stalled this season.

William Osula put Newcastle in front but Jean-Philippe Mateta headed in an equaliser then struck a late penalty as Crystal Palace won 2-1

Three Resorts and Four Hotels for UK Travel Trade
Daish’s Holidays Rolls out the Red Carpet for GTOs

03 April 2026
Group Travel Organisers (GTOs) from across the UK gathered in Bournemouth for the latest Daish’s Holidays Showcase, a four-day familiarisation trip designed to highlight the company’s coastal hotel portfolio.

Organised by travel trade specialists Steve Reed Tourism Ltd (Hampshire), the event was based at the Sands Hotel in Bournemouth, which hosted delegates throughout their stay. The itinerary showcased four key Daish’s properties: the Sands Hotel, Daish’s Hotel in Shanklin – the company’s original property – and two popular seaside hotels in Weymouth, the Prince Regent and the Russell.

A highlight of the programme was a day trip to the Isle of Wight, travelling via ferry from Lymington in the New Forest. The group of 30 GTOs enjoyed lunch and a full showround at Daish’s Hotel in Shanklin, joined by representatives from Visit Isle of Wight. The visit also included a guided experience at Osborne House, where English Heritage welcomed the group for a tour of the historic house and its extensive gardens.

Another excursion took attendees to Poole and Weymouth. The day began with a scenic harbour cruise, taking in Brownsea Island, Sandbanks and Old Harry Rocks, before continuing to Weymouth for lunch and inspections at the Prince Regent Hotel. Delegates were hosted throughout by local tourism partners, enhancing the overall destination experience.

An optional programme featured additional local visits, including Highcliffe Castle, a well-established attraction for group travel.
This showcase forms part of an ongoing series of educational visits organised for Daish’s Holidays, reflecting the continued growth of its portfolio, which now includes eleven hotels across ten UK resorts.

Martin Jenkins of Daish’s Holidays commented:
“Daish’s takes great pride in delivering a consistent, high-quality experience for groups, whichever of our hotels they choose. This ‘Three Resorts’ fam trip provided an excellent opportunity to highlight four of our seaside properties in one comprehensive visit.”

Daish’s Holidays will next be exhibiting at the Group Travel Roadshows, taking place at Brooklands Museum on 20 April and Chester Zoo on 19 October.

Election day: have you ever worked as a polling clerk or presiding officer etc for a UK election? I have many times. And I have never seen political parties being allowed to canvas directly outside of polling stations. It’s simply forbidden. And neither have I witnessed two or more people allowed in the actual voting booth(s) for obvious reasons. Bloc voting and abuse of postal votes are other considerations rarely seen before, certainly in my time. The UK has entered an incredibly dangerous period in its democratic life. The MSM, local authorities and of course police are going to have to wake up and soon.

We were beaten tonight by City and I had expected that as they’re such a great team - but Newcastle fought hard and, with a better ref and luck we could have had a draw. Mind, if my grandma had a moustache she’d be my grandad. Howay the lads .
