Breathe in… it’s a tight squeeze! 🚢 With just 2.5m clearance on either side, Spirit of Discovery arrived at dry dock in Falmouth early this morning. With the pilot picked up at 4am and lifeboats lowered, Captain Steve James expertly manoeuvred her into position 👏🏼

“Mum and I made some lovely memories.” ❤️ Mark joined his mum as a companion traveller after his dad died suddenly. They have just come back from Norway and he shared his experience with us.

"My mum and dad are Saga regulars and have been on about 10 cruises over the years. They were booked on the Norway cruise for May but sadly my dad, Nigel, passed away suddenly just after Christmas.

We were devastated, still are. My mum didn’t want to go on her own and so I said I’d join her and it was such a good decision. I loved every minute of it – the scenery, the staff, the food. I really felt part of the family on board. I’m 44 but there were lots of other companion travellers on board and I made loads of friends. Mum and I made some lovely memories.

My mum also enjoyed the cruise. She and dad had been married for 45 years and that’s a long time to be with someone, so she was anxious about travelling on her own. On this cruise, we met lots of other people who were travelling on their own so it really gave my mum confidence – she’s booked a solo cruise next year now and she’s feeling good about it.

The best bit for me was the scenery in Norway – it was stunning. I’m a litter picker and I couldn’t get over how clean everywhere was! And if you think a cruise is about taking life easy, it’s not – in my job I can do between 25,000 and 45,000 steps a day and on the cruise mum and I were doing about 15,000 steps what with the town tours and walking around the promenade deck.
We had such a good time that we’re going to book another Norway cruise for 2026!"
