Corran Lighthouse and its Lodge were designed by Robert Louis Stevenson's father and uncle. Since 1860 it has been a beacon for ships negotiating the Corran Narrows. The Lighthouse is operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board and was recently visited by Princess Anne who pronounced it a very fine lighthouse. She was right. The Lodge is light and airy with five en suite double bedrooms, there's a b

ig living room with a woodburner and magical views down Loch Linnhe to Mull and beyond, a glorious walled garden, and bossing the kitchen, a reconstructed 1932 AGA. There is also a backup electric cooker if actually cooking in, rather than looking at, an AGA is a bit daunting. Do at the very least treat yourselves to AGA toast made on the hob, one of life's great treats.
