🥾 How far would you get before you stopped to take another photo?

One of my favourite things about staying on Portland is that you really don't need to plan a big day out.

Pull on your walking shoes, head outside and just… walk. 🌊

Follow the coast path, spot the old Portland stone waymarkers, stop to watch the waves, explore rock pools and eventually find yourself at Portland Bill, probably with far more photos on your phone than you intended. 😂

The South West Coast Path is right on our doorstep at Our Place in Portland, so you can make your walk as gentle or as energetic as you fancy.

And in autumn, when things are a little quieter? Even better. 🍂

Then it's back to the cottage, hot shower, feet up and something nice to eat. That's my sort of walking holiday. 🩵

Well… this happened! 🥹🏆

I’m absolutely thrilled to share that Our Place in Portland has been named a Finalist in the Dorset Tourism Awards 2026/27 – Self Catering Accommodation of the Year!

Even better, being a finalist means we’re guaranteed to receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze award at the ceremony in October. I honestly can’t quite believe it!

When we welcomed our first guests to Our Place in Portland nearly three years ago, I never imagined we’d be here. There’s been an awful lot of hard work (and definitely the occasional what on earth are we doing? moment 😂), so this one really does mean a lot.

A huge thank you to everyone who has stayed with us, supported us, recommended us, left a lovely review or simply followed along. ❤🩵

Now we just have to wait until October to discover which colour it will be… 🥇🥈🥉

Whatever happens, I’m incredibly proud of our little cottage on Portland.

Are you a summer-by-the-sea person… or do you secretly prefer the coast when it gets a little quieter? 🌊

We love Portland in late September and October. The summer rush has eased, the coast paths are quieter, there’s still plenty to explore and, after a day out in the sea air, you can head back to a cosy cottage and put your feet up.

We have a few lovely gaps available:

🌊 26 September – 1 October
🍂 4 – 15 October
🌊 18 – 22 October

Our Place in Portland sleeps up to 6, with three bedrooms, a large bathroom with walk-in rain shower and bath, an enclosed garden and plenty of those little home-from-home touches we hope make a stay feel special.

One of our favourite things about Our Place in Portland is just how easy it is to step outside and make the most of this incredible coastline.

Morning walks along Chesil, days exploring Portland and the Jurassic Coast, then back to a cosy cottage to put your feet up.

What brings you to the coast? 🌊
