Travelling around Bardia on a local bike is one of the best ways to really get a feel for everyday life here. 🚲🌿

Bicycles are a widely used form of transport β€” faster than walking, safer for travelling through jungle areas, cheaper than local buses, and of course better for both your health and the environment.

When you book a trip through Treehope Travel, not only will you experience local life by bike yourself, but part of our profits will also go towards providing bicycles to families in the local community who need extra support.

Small changes on the road can have a big impact 🌿

During my travels in Nepal this year, I’ve been encouraging accommodation to swap plastic-wrapped soaps for locally made natural soaps from Kathmandu, wrapped in Nepal-grown lokta paper πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅

A small change, but a meaningful one β€” supporting local products while reducing single-use plastic. There’s already been lots of interest, and it’s inspiring to imagine the impact if more places across Nepal made simple local changes like this together.

I visited Pashupatinath Temple yesterday, not as a traveller passing through, but to stand beside a close friend and his family during a sacred farewell.

Along the banks of the Bagmati, I witnessed Hindu funeral rituals within a Newar family. There was a quiet dignity in how grief was held β€” openly, collectively, and without separation from everyday life. It was a deeply human moment of love, loss, and presence.

Fire, through Agni, is believed to purify and return the body to the universe, while the river carries ashes and prayers onward. Smoke rose into the sky as families gathered in prayer, each ritual reflecting the belief that the body is temporary, returning to nature and the five elements from which it came.

Pashupatinath has been a sacred place of worship and cremation for centuries, where life, mourning, prayer, and release exist side by side.

A truly moving experience. One I will hold in my heart always.
My thoughts and love are with those grieving...πŸ™πŸ½β€οΈ
