Whether you have a day to spare or two or three, The Cotswolds are a stunning part of South West England that make for a wonderful visit.

" David's guided walks around Stonehenge and the Avebury stone circles were excellent. He is very knowledgeable, and it was a treat to have him share interesting facts and insights. Best of all, we could ask questions! David plotted the most efficient way to get the best views helping us get the most out of our time. And even though nearly 1.5 million people visit Stonehenge each year, he found a way to avoid 90% of the crowds. As usual, the choice of restaurant for lunch was excellent. And, we got special treatment!

Our group of six raved about the day as we relived it over dinner that night. The Foot Trails standards for excellent quality and planning were evident all day."

Weather. What's the English weather like?
Well, it's a subject we Brits love to talk about!
It's varied for sure. We have a temperate island climate that can see multiple types of weather, and temperatures, all in the same day sometimes! So a bit of sunshine, a rain shower or some wind. It's all possible.

It is notoriously hard to predict the weather more than 3 days ahead so we do recommend that at all times of year you have clothing which can be adaptable and comfortable for travelling and strolling. You need to be prepared for both warm and sunny weather and cooler, rainy weather.

For warmer sunny weather be prepared to protect yourself from the sun. Even in warmer sunnier weather it can cloud over and the temperature can cool so have a second layer with you.
Cooler, changeable times with rain showers can happen at any time of year including summer. So we always advise having a waterproof jacket with you. And an extra top layer is always good should it become cooler.

Experiencing Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral in their full context!

" In the midst of a marvelous 12-day trek through "Ancient England," we had the pleasure of spending the day doing a "Drive & Stroll" with Foot Trails co-founder David Howell. (Note for readers, Foot Trails is Drive and Stroll's sister company)

Our itinerary for the day took us to Stonehenge and then on to Salisbury to explore the Water Meadows, the Cathedral and the Town.

This was truly one of the highlights of our journey as David carefully orchestrated our approach to Stonehenge, starting from the Wood Henge end of the vast site, and then walking us through the rolling fields to experience the monument as would likely have been done in ancient times during ceremonial processions. This allowed for a true appreciation of the connectivity between Stonehenge and its surrounding landscape - an unforgettable experience that we would have missed had we taken a bus from the visitor's center along with the masses of people.

After a delicious "contemporary" pub lunch, we ventured on to Salisbury for the afternoon where we parked just outside the center of town in a location that allowed us to appreciate the scale of the Cathedral from afar. Our "stroll" took us through beautiful parks and the Salisbury Water Meadows until we reached Town and enjoyed a tour through the impressive Cathedral and the Close.

Having the opportunity to spend the day with David, with his incredible local knowledge, was invaluable as it gave us a chance to ask questions about the unique landscapes and historic architectural monuments that we had been visiting - both on that day and during our entire Foot Trail. What a memorable experience!!! "
