Last week David and I were in the Cotswolds. It was a magical week. With the weather we saw a lot of mellow, low slung golden autumn sunshine, which reflected on the Cotswolds stone beautifully.

Here are some gorgeous Cotswolds stone cottages we came across on our tour along with some superb country houses and manors and a delightful church.

Yesterday David and I were in Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds. A beautiful Cotswolds village which sits on the River Eye.

Despite its gory sounding name, the village is thought to have come from the ancient word ' Schlacter' which means uneven ground with water pools.

We toured the village, crossing the little bridges over the river and admiring the former water mill.

On Wednesday David and I were in Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds.

Stow-on-the-Wold has been a centre for settlement for 1000's of years, sitting at the junction of several ancient tracks.

The town is centred around the market square which has held a long tradition of trade. The market began in 1107 and at its height is said to have traded 20 000 sheep a day!

Yesterday David and I were touring in the beautiful Cotswolds market town of Chipping Campden.
There are several ' Chipping ' towns in England, and the word ' Chipping' means market or marketplace in old English.

Chipping Campden is known for its Arts and Craft movement. This movement began in 1902 in London and the South East as a rebuke to the industrial revolution. A group of 50 - 60 craftspeople moved from London to Chipping Campden to set up home and a craft community.

The town has several churches, with the church of St James being founded in the 13th century. Close by is the site of the former home of the Hicks family, which was destroyed in the English Civil War, all bar the impressive banqueting hall which can still be seen today.

The market hall dates from the 1600's and a little craft market was taking place during our tour.

Chipping Campden is a beautiful and historic town with a wealth of stories and histories to enjoy. It's good to soak up the atmosphere of the town, enjoy the many historic buildings some with wonderful wooden doors, many of which are adorned with flower and leaf wreaths.

The town also has many independent shops, cafes and restaurants.

" It was an absolute joy and pleasure to take the Drive and Stroll tour and to be driven and guided by David. The plans prior to arriving were fantastic with every aspect covered. The tour explored the region of the Jurassic coast, the landscape and seascapes of Dorset and David is an excellent historian with interesting stories of the area. The accommodation was so delightful and reflect the history of the area. The two days passed so quickly and I look forward to the next opportunity to enjoy another Drive and Stroll tour. "

We had a wonderful and interesting day in the city of Bristol yesterday with the Great West Way and VisitWiltshire talking about Drive and Stroll with interested buyers from around the world.

Bristol is a vibrant and creative city with a rich maritime history, known for landmarks such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain (where we were based) the largest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1853.

We learnt much about the life of Isambard Kingdom Brunel , who designed the ship as well as the Great Western Railway. He was a daring Victorian engineer and we were privileged to see some of his writings and letters.

The day began with a lovely boat trip with The Bristol Packet Boats.

It was great to be given the opportunity to talk about Drive and Stroll and its sister company Foot Trails with interested parties. Drive and Stroll offers authentic scenic tours with your own private driver guide combined with short enjoyable strolls.

What a marvellous couple of days we have just had driving and strolling on the Dorset Jurassic Coast with our wonderful guest from France.

As you can see in these photographs, the weather was superb!
David and our guest were taking our ' Landscapes and Seascapes of Dorset' tour. A magical and unhurried two day and two night journey along the UNESCO world heritage site of the Dorset Coast. Lots of spectacular views and hidden gems starting in Lyme Regis and ending in Studland Bay.

Driving with your own driver guide means that a local takes the wheel, and maneuvers the twisty roads, so you can sit back and relax and enjoy the view! And you also have someone who can share stories as you explore, which is great fun. They also know the best places for lunch! And the best places to enjoy the view.

Having a combination of driving and strolling means plenty of opportunities to get out of the vehicle, soak up the views and take plenty of photographs. We can tailor the strolling to suit you!

We're at Stonehenge today and also exploring among the beautiful, hidden and historic villages of south Wiltshire.

Here are some fascinating facts about Stonehenge.

1) Construction at Stonehenge began in 3000 bc, making the site 5000 years old! That's older than the pyramids!

2) Stonehenge took over 1000 years to build and was built in stages.

3) Stonehenge is a giant calendar. On the summer solstice, the sun rises over the Heel Stone, and on the winter solstice, it sets near it.

4) An ancient cemetery. The remains of hundreds of people have been found on the site.

Following its launch earlier this year, we are now preparing to welcome our first Drive and Stroll guests to our ' Landscapes and Seascapes of Dorset ' Tour!

This stunning 2 day and 2 night experience begins in the charming and historic seaside and fishing town of Lyme Regis, with its famous harbour, The Cobb. The tour follows the coast, taking in some truly pictresque views and villages off the beaten path, and ending at Studland Bay.

It's easy to reach the Dorset Coast from London in 2.5 to 3 hours direct. We'll meet you when you arrive at the train station. Alternatively we can arrange a chauffeured car to pick you up and drive you down to us in Dorset.

Having your own driver guide is a wonderfully relaxing experience. A knowledgeable local to take the wheel, whilst you sit and enjoy the views. There are plenty of opportunities for photos along the way and short enjoyable strolls to get up close to the wonderful villages, views and sights.

One of our popular tours is Secrets of Stonehenge.

It gives you a wonderful opportunity to see Stonehenge and some of its less well known wider site, without the crowds, thanks to an optional 2 mile walk to the stones.

It also features a wonderful British pub lunch at a country pub set in a stunning and historic Wiltshire village.
