A Castle, Old England and Medieval Villages - Wiltshire

NEW for this summer, our Castle, Old England and Medieval Villages tour in Wiltshire is perfect if you'd like a relaxing, crowd free escape to the country!

Just an hour and 25 minutes from London by train, we'll meet you at Salisbury train station and take a scenic drive, where you can immerse yourselves in the stories and beauty of old England.

If you prefer, we can have a chauffeured car meet and welcome you at your accommodation in London or Bath.

Your day begins with coffee in a rustic barn, before heading over to Wardour Castle where we will enjoy a short stroll. Lunch is at a traditional English country pub serving excellent food and during the afternoon we will make our way back through medieval villages to Salisbury.

Alternatively, a chauffeured car can meet and return you to Bath or London.

Strolling on a Drive and Stroll Tour

At Drive and Stroll you won't just spend your time in our comfortable vehicles, you'll also be able to enjoy short, easy strolls when you can stretch your legs and get into the villages, market towns and countryside.

Our strolls and short walks are typically 30 - 60 minutes in length, but we can tailor things to suit you and your wishes!

Guests find that this combination of driving and strolling provides the perfect balance for a tour. You'll be able to cover good ground in the vehicle and then get up close and personal to those all important views!

Sturdy waterproof shoes are the ideal companion for your feet on our tours, but trainers or sneakers are adequate. Comfort is important. If you're worried about the weight during your flight, wear your waterproof shoes on the flight.

At Drive and Stroll we are often asked to take guests to well known icons but in truth, the real treasures and gems lie off the tourist trails and can be found through local knowledge. The well known icons such as Bibury and Bourton on the Water for example are hugely crowded and suffering from over tourism.

" David's guided walks around Stonehenge and the Avebury stone circles were excellent. He is very knowledgeable, and it was a treat to have him share interesting facts and insights. Best of all, we could ask questions! David plotted the most efficient way to get the best views helping us get the most out of our time. And even though nearly 1.5 million people visit Stonehenge each year, he found a way to avoid 90% of the crowds. As usual, the choice of restaurant for lunch was excellent. And, we got special treatment!

Our group of six raved about the day as we relived it over dinner that night. The Foot Trails standards for excellent quality and planning were evident all day."

Weather. What's the English weather like?
Well, it's a subject we Brits love to talk about!
It's varied for sure. We have a temperate island climate that can see multiple types of weather, and temperatures, all in the same day sometimes! So a bit of sunshine, a rain shower or some wind. It's all possible.

It is notoriously hard to predict the weather more than 3 days ahead so we do recommend that at all times of year you have clothing which can be adaptable and comfortable for travelling and strolling. You need to be prepared for both warm and sunny weather and cooler, rainy weather.

For warmer sunny weather be prepared to protect yourself from the sun. Even in warmer sunnier weather it can cloud over and the temperature can cool so have a second layer with you.
Cooler, changeable times with rain showers can happen at any time of year including summer. So we always advise having a waterproof jacket with you. And an extra top layer is always good should it become cooler.
