🇱🇰 Sri Lanka Travel Diaries | Days 7 to 9 ❤️

I really don’t want this adventure to end! ❤️

The last few days have been full of experiences that make travelling so special.

We took the famous train journey to Ella, winding through the most beautiful green mountains and tea plantations. The scenery was incredible, the atmosphere on the train was brilliant and of course we had to get those Instagram shots! 🚂📸

In Ella, we visited a tea plantation to discover how Sri Lanka’s famous Ceylon tea is made. Who knew so much went into our daily cuppa? ☕ We even spotted plantations named Edinburgh and Glasgow, which made us smile!

Then it was time to leave the hills behind and head for the south coast, stopping to see the famous stilt fishermen before exploring the historic streets of Galle Fort.

And somewhere between the train rides, the sightseeing, the laughter and the endless photos, I’ve realised just how much this group of women have shared together over the last nine days.

We arrived in Sri Lanka as a group of women, some of whom had never met before, and we’re leaving with new friendships, so many shared stories and memories that will stay with us for years.

And that, for me, has been one of the loveliest parts of this whole adventure with these fabulous ladies. 🩷🇱🇰

🇱🇰 Sri Lanka Travel Diaries
Day 6

What a day we had exploring as we made our way from the east coast beaches to Kandy, the cultural heart of the island.

The pictures really do say it all!

From the incredible Dambulla Cave Temples to colourful local fruit and vegetable markets, fascinating spice gardens where we learnt about Ayurvedic medicine, and a visit to a traditional batik workshop where we even got to try on some of the beautiful fabrics!

We also visited one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful Hindu temples, a first for me and such a special experience.

And I have to mention Mervin, our wonderful private guide. Having someone so knowledgeable, passionate and professional makes such a difference. He brings every place we visit to life with his stories and local insight.

But the best part of all this has been sharing these experiences with such a fabulous group of ladies.

The laughter, the friendships and the memories we’re making together are what make this adventure so special.

Every day brings something different and I’m loving every minute of it ❤️

🇱🇰 How are we already on day five and halfway through our Sri Lankan adventure? ❤️

After such a busy start to our trip, the last couple of days have been all about slowing things down on the beautiful east coast at Uppuveli Beach.

Think long stretches of palm lined sand, warm sunshine and sea that genuinely feels as warm as a bath. 🌴☀️

We headed out on an incredible snorkelling trip 🤿🐠 but otherwise it has been lovely to have some proper downtime, relax and recharge after everything we packed into those first few days.

We also had a rather unexpected Sri Lankan experience at our hotel when we were invited to join their Christmas cake making parade! 🎄

There was music, dancing and plenty of fun as the ingredients were paraded through the hotel before we all got involved in the traditional mixing of the fruits for their Christmas cakes.

And now we’re off again!

Today we leave the coast behind and head towards Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka.

Think temples, spice farms, traditional dancing, local cooking and plenty more Sri Lankan culture.

Five days down and so many memories already. I’m loving seeing this trip I spent so long planning actually come to life with this fabulous group of women. 🇱🇰❤️

🇱🇰 48 hours in Sri Lanka… and what a 48 hours it’s been leading this group of fabulous women with Glasglow Girls Club! ❤️

It honestly feels like we’ve been here for a week with everything we’ve already experienced.

We’ve had the loveliest Sri Lankan welcome, stayed at Amba Yaalu, Sri Lanka’s first hotel entirely managed and operated by women, climbed Sigiriya Rock for sunrise after a rather early 4.30am alarm 😴😂 and spent time with local women in a farming village learning how to make okra curry and dehusk rice before sitting down together for lunch.

And then came the elephants… 🐘❤️

I deliberately chose one of Sri Lanka’s lesser known parks for our safari and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

We had the whole place to ourselves!

No other jeeps. No crowds. Just us quietly watching elephants wandering through their natural habitat, feeding and going about their day.

It was so peaceful and one of those experiences where everyone just sits quietly and takes it all in.

This is exactly how I wanted the ladies to experience Sri Lanka. The famous sights, of course, but also the people, the culture, the wildlife and those quieter moments you remember long after you come home.

There’s already been so much laughter and fun and some very special memories made.

And we’re only 48 hours in… 🇱🇰❤️

🇱🇰 In case you missed it, I’m currently in Sri Lanka hosting a very special adventure!

After almost a year of planning, I’m here with a fabulous group of women for the very first overseas Glasglow Girls Club trip, a journey I personally created to bring women together to experience Sri Lanka, make new friendships and have an amazing adventure along the way.

And what a first day we’ve had! ❤️

Our day started with a 4.30am alarm to climb the incredible Sigiriya Rock to see the sunrise. An early start, but absolutely worth it when we reached the top! The views were incredible.

From there, we travelled into a local Sri Lankan farming village where we spent time with local women who showed us some of their traditional cooking methods.

We learnt how to make okra curry, tried our hand at de husking rice and then sat down together to enjoy the food they had prepared which was absolutely delicious.

This is exactly what I wanted this trip to be about. Not simply visiting Sri Lanka and seeing the sights, but meeting local people, learning about their culture and experiencing some of the traditions that make this country so special.

And we are having so much fun! There has already been so much laughter, plenty of encouragement for one another and some very funny moments along the way.

We’re only on day one and already making memories that I know we’ll be talking about long after we’re home.

And there is so much more still to come… 🇱🇰❤️

🇱🇰 THREE DAYS TO GO… and a year of planning is about to become a reality.

And this time I won’t just be sending clients off on an incredible trip. I’m actually going with them!

I’m heading to Sri Lanka with this amazing group of women to host the very first overseas Glasglow Girls Club adventure, a journey I’ve personally created for all of these fabulous ladies who wanted to experience this incredible country together.

For the past year, I’ve been working behind the scenes to turn an idea into a carefully planned journey around Sri Lanka. And now, after all the research, conversations, decisions and planning, I’m finally going to see it come to life.

And there is a lot that goes into creating a trip like this. Every part of the itinerary has been chosen for a reason.

We’ll travel through Sri Lanka staying in five very different hotels, experience its culture, food and incredible landscapes, head out on safari, take one of the world’s great scenic train journeys through the hill country, cook with local women, stay at Sri Lanka’s first female led hotel and finish with some very welcome time beside the Indian Ocean.

Planning a great itinerary though is about much more than putting together a collection of hotels and experiences.

It is about understanding how a journey should flow, knowing what is worth including and what isn’t, having trusted partners on the ground and taking care of all those details that travellers should never have to think about.

I’ll be sharing plenty from Sri Lanka over the next couple of weeks, including our hotels, experiences, the places we discover and some of the behind the scenes moments!

Where will you find some of the best winter sunshine this year? ☀️

As the evenings start drawing in, my attention always turns to the Far East and the Indian Ocean.

🥶 Because while we are reaching for coats and switching the heating on, some of the world’s most exciting destinations are entering their best season.

🇹🇭 Thailand
Think Bangkok rooftops and brilliant street food, beautiful hotels, jungle adventures and islands where winter means warm seas and blue skies.

🇲🇾 Malaysia
One of my favourites for travellers who want variety. Kuala Lumpur, rainforest, incredible food and beautiful beaches can all feature in one trip.

🇻🇳 Vietnam and Cambodia
A wonderful pairing if you want your sunshine with plenty of culture. Cities, temples, fantastic food, beautiful landscapes and time on the coast.

🇱🇰 Sri Lanka
Tea country, wildlife, boutique hotels, ancient cities and beaches. A brilliant choice if lying beside a pool for two weeks simply is not enough for you.

🇲🇻 The Maldives
Still one of the ultimate winter escapes. And there is far more choice than you might imagine, from intimate barefoot islands to exceptional family resorts and two island combinations.

🇲🇺 Mauritius
Beautiful beaches, excellent hotels, mountains, waterfalls, golf and plenty to explore beyond your resort. Particularly lovely for couples and families wanting winter warmth with a little more to do.

And then there is Australia 🇦🇺

If you have ever thought Australia is simply too far for a family holiday, Easter 2027 could be the time to reconsider it.

Australia works brilliantly when you treat the journey as part of the holiday and choose two or three places rather than trying to see everything.

Sydney followed by the Gold Coast. Melbourne with the Great Ocean Road. Queensland with the Great Barrier Reef. Or perhaps a completely different adventure in Western Australia.

For families with older children and teenagers especially, it can be an incredible trip. Wildlife, beaches, cities, surfing, snorkelling, outdoor adventures and experiences you will still be talking about years later.

And with Easter 2027 getting closer, now is the time I would be planning it rather than waiting until next year.

So, if escaping the British winter is on your mind, where would you choose?
