Hello! I’m Beth and I’m the founder of Dear Green Places. I wanted to introduce myself and share a little bit about why I do what I do!

I started this wee tour company because I love Glasgow, I love history, and when I’m on holiday, I love a walking tour. Dear Green Places gives me a chance to combine all these passions into something that I can share with the world! Come along to one of our tours to find out more, but in the meantime, here’s 3 things you should know about me:

1. I’m a big history nerd – I have a History and English Language degree from the University of Glasgow, where I mainly studied modern and social history. I’m fascinated by the way that history influences everything we do, and I think everyone should learn a little bit about wherever they happen to be.

2. I’ve lived in Glasgow for nearly 10 years. I’m originally from Manchester, but I think by now I must be an honorary weegie (a.k.a. Glaswegian). I am half-Scottish, too, but I’m afraid I’m still working on the accent!

3. I’m really passionate about saving the planet, and I want my business to reflect that. Doing all our tours on foot is a great start, but I’m always considering sustainability in every decision that I make.

If there’s anything else you’d like to know, drop a comment or send me an email at [email protected]

We’re back, baby! 💚🎉

It’s a new year and a new start – we’ve got big plans for 2023! We hope you’ll join us as we get back out onto the sunny (sometimes!) streets of Glasgow to explore the city and its history.

We’ve used the wee break (thanks, covid) to refresh our knowledge of the city and rekindle our enthusiasm for showing you lovely folks around. We hope you’ll join us – on our socials, or even better, in person on one of our tours! 💚

We think it’s best to put our tours on hold for a while, so that we can be sure we’re doing everything we can to stop the spread of Covid-19. Hopefully we’ll be back very soon, but until then wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay safe 💚

Unfortunately, in line with new Covid-19 restrictions, this weekend will be our last available tours for a while.

We want to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to keep ourselves and our customers safe, and in light of recent announcements from the Scottish government, we feel it is best to stop touring for now.

Any bookings made for this weekend will go ahead as planned, but all future tours will be cancelled until further notice.

We’ll let you know as soon as we feel it is safe to get back to touring again, but in the meanwhile, wear a mask, socially distance, and keep safe 💚

This gorgeous clock tower is the Tolbooth Steeple, which stands right in the middle of Glasgow’s medieval High Street at Glasgow Cross. First built in 1627, it was originally attached to a larger building which housed council chambers, a courthouse and a jail. The rest of the building was demolished during redevelopment of the area in the 1920s, but at least the steeple remains!

It’s just a couple of weeks before our tours start again and we can’t wait 💚 Here’s a nice wee picture of Buchanan Street to keep you going in the meanwhile. Wet pavements but sunny skies means it was a typical Glasgow summer’s day when we took this picture!

Named for one of Glasgow’s infamous To***co Lords, George Buchanan, there's been discussion about whether the street name should be changed. Should we still commemorate someone like Buchanan, who made his name and his wealth in an industry built on the backs of slaves?

We want to make sure that everyone taking part in our tours feels safe. Alongside following Scottish government guidelines, we’ve undertaken Airbnb’s health and safety training, and have made changes to how we run our tours. This includes:

- smaller tour group sizes

- all guests and guides will be required to wear a face mask for the duration of the tour

- we will avoid busy public spaces as much as possible

- hand sanitiser will be available
