MacLeod Highland Tours has released new tours for 2023. Yes, I know our main thing is bespoke custom tours but sometimes people find it useful to be given a few ideas to start. Check out the recommended three day-Midi Tour. One day to get to Skye, one day on Skye and one day to return. Still too long? Wow you really are pushed for time! OK so I have also devised the Luath Tour. Luath is Gaelic for quick. This tour can get you to the highlight for any MacLeod, Dunvegan Castle (and back to Edinburgh/St Andrews) in a two-day tour. Bookings now open for 2023.

MacLeod Highland Tours visits Kintyre, Islay and Jura. Photos show 1. Tarbert Castle, Kintyre. Here in 1098 Norwegian King Magnus Barelegs ordered his ship be portaged across the isthmus to claim Kintyre as a Hebridean island and therefore part of Norway under the terms of his treaty with the Scots. A feat repeated by King Robert the Bruce to fulfill a prophesy. Tarbert had a Royal garrison in Bruce's reign. 2. Finlaggan, Islay. One time seat of power of the Lords of the Isles where the Council of the Isles met. Islay is also famed for its whisky. 3. Tarbert, Jura. Ever wondered why the name 'Tarbert' appears at many places on Scottish maps. Well it is Gaelic for 'isthmus'. Logical when you see where the places with this name are. You can visit this less- known corner of the Highlands with MacLeod Highland Tours.

"The trip was fantastic. Weeks later it is still being talked about amongst our group and I am certain that it will be for a long time yet.
Your organization, history and narrative were greatly appreciated along with all your hard work to make it such a memorable journey for our Clan."

Members of Clan McNaughton at Dunderave Castle, traditional seat of their Chief. The visit was the finale of an eight day tour of Scotland organised by MacLeod Highland Tours. The large group along with me, Kevin John Tolmie as their guide travelled with Hamish Gordon Coaches.
The visit to Dundarave Castle was by special arrangement as it is not open to the public.

MacLeod Highland Tours visits the magnificently refurbished Stirling Castle where you can meet characters from history. Here I met the English Ambassador. Maybe before long Scotland will again welcome an English Ambassador. Alba gu Brath!

MacLeod Highland Tours visited Bannockburn. The scene of the greatest
victory of the Scots over the English. The victory against the odds was a
masterpiece of military tactics by our greatest ever King, Robert I,
better known as Robert the Bruce. It secured Scottish independence for
hundreds of years although of course the English did not gave up their
attacks. Was Clan MacLeod there? The answer is probably although we have
no proof. Tormod of Harris and Torquil of Lewis would have been expected
to provide men to the Lord of the Isles who had committed his Islesmen to
King Robert. Visit the site with MacLeod Highland Tours and soak up the
atmosphere which fills everyone of Scottish descent with pride.

MacLeod Highland Tours visited the battlefield of Culloden. Scene of the last battle fought in Scotland, defeat for the Jacobites and the end of the traditional Highland way of life. The blue flag marks the Jacobite line. The stone has the name ‘Clan MacLeod’ carved on it. Near this spot the 120 MacLeods stood before their charge towards the Hanoverian line. Let me take you on your personal MacLeod Culloden experience.

A great day spent hiking to Rubha an Dùnain. A Viking Canal, Iron Age fort (behind me in photo), Mesolithic chambered cairn and an abandoned village dating from the time of the Clearances. A richly historical location. Skye at its best. Allow two hours to get there, two hours to have lunch and explore and two hours back. Worth the effort.

The sun is shining and it feels like spring with the daffodils all around. today is also the anniversary of the coronation of our greatest King Robert I (the Bruce) in 1306. I thought you might like to see a photo of my vehicle Una in her new macleodhighlandtours.scot vinyl outfit. Oh yes, that's me leaning on the bonnet (or hood as you might call it). Doune Castle behind, alias Castle Leoch to Outlander fans.

Halò Dear Cousins. I am pleased to announce that MacLeod Highland Tours is fully booked for June and July. There is still some availability for May and August but do not delay! On your Highland vacation, it is always nice to stop for a photo-opportunity by this well-known sign. However, I would not want to be there today as Scotland is experiencing some wintery weather. I am staying indoors and thinking of summer!

Bliadhna Mhath Ur! Happy New Year! Have you recovered from Hogmanay? Taken the whisky out of the whisky and water at least for a wee while? I visited the Deep South (of Scotland) last week - the picturesque county of Kirkcudbright (p**n. Kir-coo-bray). The picture is of a little bay called Port Mary. In 1568 this was where Mary Queen of Scots departed her country forever. She went to exile, capture, imprisonment and eventual ex*****on on the orders of the English Queen Elizabeth. Near to here is the now ruined Abbey of Dundrennan. Believed to be where Mary took her last refreshment before departure. Would you like to visit Scotland and make your own historic journey? Your cousin and guide awaits!
