One of the biggest mistakes I see when people are planning a USA multi-centre is trying to fit too much in.
I completely understand why.
The USA is huge, there are so many places people want to see, and often they don’t know when they’ll be back.
But trying to squeeze New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Orlando into two weeks usually means spending more time in airports than actually enjoying the places you’ve travelled so far to see.
I think it’s usually better to do fewer places properly.
Spend enough time somewhere to get a feel for it, enjoy it and experience more than just the main tourist attractions.
That’s why I often look at how destinations fit together rather than simply how many places can be included.
For example, New York and Boston work really well together. So do Las Vegas and a fly-drive through the National Parks. Or California as a trip in its own right.
You don’t have to see everything in one go.
In fact, the trips people tend to enjoy most are often the ones where they’ve left themselves enough time to actually enjoy where they are.
