🗽 Where To Wednesday: NEW YORK CITY ✈️
Few places on earth have as much character, chaos, charm and food (let’s be honest) as New York
Whether you’re plotting a first-timer trip or you’ve been a dozen times, there’s always something new to see, do or eat
I’ve been lucky enough to visit three times now once in November during Thanksgiving (magical), once over Christmas (my favourite season), and most recently in July 2024 when it was HOT. Like… “my legs are sweating and I didn’t know they could do that” hot. But still amazing.
🍎 Best time to go?
Honestly, NYC works year round but November and December are absolutely gorgeous with the decorations, ice skating, Christmas windows, markets and general festive chaos.
One day I will go for New Year’s Eve to watch the ball drop but NOT penned into Times Square with an adult nappy. I’ll be doing it from a bar, with heating, a drink, and a toilet. Classy 🤣
🌆 Beyond Times Square
If you’ve never been, you absolutely have to see Times Square once. Then leave. Trust me. There’s so much more to NYC than giant billboards and men in questionable Disney costumes.
Some favourites include:
• The High Line
• Greenwich Village & West Village
• Chelsea Market
• Brooklyn (DUMBO, Williamsburg etc)
• Central Park (especially Strawberry Fields)
• Coney Island in summer
• Little Italy & Chinatown
• Museum Mile & galleries galore
• Iconic viewpoints like Top of the Rock, Edge, Empire State & One World
🎟 City Pass options
NYC has brilliant sightseeing passes that save time and money. Great for first timers and families.
🚆 Amtrak — highly underrated
Last trip we used Amtrak instead of flying internally and I’d do it again in a heartbeat
We went DC ➜ NYC for six nights, then NYC ➜ Boston smooth, easy, no airport faff, no queues, and way more scenic
👨👩👧👦 Who is NYC for?
• couples
• families
• friends
• solos
• city break lovers
• foodies
• Christmas obsessives
• people who like to walk 20,000 steps without noticing
You can explore at any pace you like eat pizza slices under a bridge, watch Broadway shows, sit in cafes, tour museums, ride the subway, shop, do day trips, or just stand in the middle of the street staring up like a tourist in a movie. It all works.
NYC is one of those destinations that gets under your skin and keeps calling you back… I’m already mentally planning my next one
