Day 3 of Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival was a popular favourite on the Dava Moor. What started as a very grey and murky morning soon improved with blue skies and some warmth.

The group visited Easter and Wester Crannich , Rychorrich and Anaboard with black and white photos and tales of the folk who once lived there.

I’ve got a rest now until Saturday and the Dava Way walk from Dava to Grantown. A few places left and Sunday is around Lochindorb which is fully booked.

Day 2 of Moray Walking & Outdoor Festival was a sell out walk around Glen Beg -Grantown’s Hidden Gem.

We enjoyed the walk from the roadside up to Glen Beg and Wester Gorton. Sadly no views of the Cairngorms but at least the rain held off until we got back. Great company and conversation

Tomorrow’s walk on the Dava Moor from the Jesus Saves Stone is fully booked .

Despite threat of showers the weather turned into a beautiful day in the shelter of the Anagach Woods and down by the Spey.

Back from the lush green fields of Dumfries-shire to spend time on a recce on the Dava moor for this years Moray Walking and Outdoor Festival.

The festival runs from 12-22 June. This is my fifth year leading walks in the Grantown area. And this year I’m adding a new one around Lochindorb.

Today was perfect for the views to Ben Rinnes in the east, Northern Cairngorms to the south, Ben Wyvis and Morven in Caithness to the north.

Full details of walks and booking over the coming weeks on www.moraywalkoutdoorfest.co.uk

Many in the Grantown area will be familiar with the name Inverallan. But how many know where it is and its meaning ?

Inverallan , the mouth of the Allan Burn enters the River Spey a little upstream from the former site of the original parish church and graveyard of Inverallan. The local parish church retains the name but in a new location.

However, the burn changes its name as it flows down Glen Beg. It rises at the head of Glen Beg at Tobar or Fuaran Allan (well or spring of the green place)

It then, over time became known as Burn of Glenbeg 1771, Ault Glen Beg 1809 and Burn of Craggan 1771 or Kirkton Burn in its lower reaches.

Today we know it as the Glenbeg Burn but the original names are retained at source and confluence.
