Well we had two great trips, saw , Cuckoos, Hobbies, Marshies, Cranes, Spoonbills, Buzzard, Red Kite, Reedling, Reed Warbler and Swans, four types of duck. Grebe, Coot, Crow and Heron nests. Saw two Swallowtails , some Norfolk Hawkers and all in two hours. We got all passengers back to their cars several seconds before this happened, didn’t have time to put the roof up fully before me and Bracken took shelter.

What a time it is to see Swallowtails , this was at Strumpshaw Fen filmed by Adrian. We had some good sightings early in the day, we also had the canvas roof up all day and remained relatively cool in the intense sun and hot wind. Lesser Emperor dragons were out in force and my first three Norfolk Hawkers. Glimpses of Bittern, Sponbill, Cuckoo, Reedling, good Harrier displays. The odd Bittern call and not a single sign of Crane .

On Friday my friend Adi went to Ranworth Broad to look at the Ospreys and did indeed witness one catching a fish from the NWT boat and also captured these wonderful damsels. Meanwhile we saw an Osprey from our boat around 10 am and then at 12.40 saw one with a fish who just hung about for around five minutes, fab! More fun was had seeing a buzzard successfully beg a food pass from a young male harrier which really annoyed the female when she turned up two seconds later . And of course now is Swallowtail time!

A picture of today’s (only) Swallowtail. Otherwise lots of nests of all sorts, lots of Harriers, a few Hobby and not a single Cuckoo seen only one faint call. Excited by a Grebe nesting right next to a Coot this week.

Well it’s been a cuckoo bonanza recently, quite a number of Bittern and Crane sightings. Harriers carrying out some great manoeuvres . Most Grebe nests are on hold what with the water rise and winds, only the Whiteslea couple seem to be sitting. Lots of Swifts again today.

First Swallowtail of the season seen today 11am Kandle D**e. Photo taken a different year of one aboard my boat.

Another sunny day out in the Norfolk Broads and these families of grazing Greylag geese were a delight to watch, nearby I spent a few minutes watching a Cetti warbler singing and feeding in a bush by the car park. The Marsh Harriers are displaying, the Swifts and Hobbies are arriving etc etc, so in short, now is the time to get out into wildlife. You don’t have to come out on a boat or in Norfolk at all, just wherever you are, squeeze in a few minutes (more)of wildlife if you can.

Tours begin again from 11am on the 1st of May.
