🇰🇭 Cambodia is about so much more than Angkor Wat.

I was only there for a short time on my G Adventures GX trip, but we managed to fit in some brilliant experiences.

Ta Prohm was my favourite temple, with its incredible tree roots growing through the ruins. We also visited Silk Island, the Makers Market and the SPOONS Planeterra project, where tourism is helping create opportunities for local young people.

And that’s just a small taste of what Cambodia has to offer.

There’s history, culture, food, local communities, countryside and coastline. Plenty of reasons to spend longer here rather than just visiting for the temples.

I’ve only scratched the surface, and I’d love to go back and see more.

I came here knowing G Adventures as a travel company. I’m leaving understanding the feeling.

After a week of travelling through Cambodia, meeting the people behind the trips, visiting Planeterra projects, sharing tuk tuk rides, eating incredible food, learning about Cambodia’s history and culture and spending time with a brilliant bunch of travel people… I get it.

G Adventures doesn’t just take you around the world. They make sure travel gives something back too.

We saw first-hand how tourism can support local businesses, create opportunities and help communities thrive. And that really stayed with me.

I’ve spent 36 years in travel, but this trip has made me look at travel through a slightly different lens.

And the best bit? I don’t have long to wait for my next G adventure.

16 October… Peru and Machu Picchu. 🇵🇪

This time it’s not a work trip or a hosted trip. It’s my own holiday, travelling on G Adventures’ National Geographic Machu Picchu tour.

So I’m officially putting my money where my mouth is. 😂

Cambodia, you’ve been bloody brilliant. ❤️

Meet our CEO… and no, I don’t mean the one in the fancy office! 😂

On G Adventures trips, CEO stands for Chief Experience Officer, basically your guide, organiser, fixer, storyteller and all-round trip legend.

And ours in Cambodia is Tong.

He’s been absolutely brilliant. Full of energy, knowledge, patience and a cracking sense of humour. He’s somehow managing to keep a group of travel professionals from 10 different directions all heading roughly the same way… which deserves its own award! 😂

From navigating Phnom Penh in tuk tuks to sharing the history and culture of Cambodia, Tong has made the whole experience even better.

Every G Adventures trip needs a Tong. 🇰🇭

So, I’m in Cambodia! 🇰🇭

You might have heard me mention G Adventures but if you’re thinking “what actually is G Adventures?” I thought I’d give you a quick explanation.

I’m here for the G Summit, meeting travel professionals from around the world, learning more about G Adventures and, most importantly, getting to experience some of it for myself.

I’ve been booking G Adventures for my clients for years, so it’s great to finally see more of what they do behind the scenes and experience the trips first-hand.

I’ll be sharing plenty from Cambodia over the next few days, so follow along and see what we get up to! 🇰🇭

🇰🇭 Karen is off to Cambodia!

On Tuesday, I’m heading off with G Adventures on their Changemakers trip, joining travel professionals from around the world to explore, learn and experience a very different side of Cambodia.

Here’s a little sneak peek at what’s ahead:

Small group or larger group?

If you were to book a tour, would you go for a small group with a more intimate feel and fewer people or a larger group with a big, buzzy atmosphere?

There is no right or wrong answer, it is all about what suits you best.When we look at tours, we always think about things like group size, pace and style so you end up with a trip that actually feels like “you”.

One of the best things about a good tour?

You get to see so much without having to spend hours working out how to get from A to B. Someone else has done the organising, the hotels are sorted, the itinerary is planned and you’ve got a guide who knows the destination.

Which means you can actually concentrate on enjoying it and that’s probably why we’re seeing so many people who have never considered a tour before starting to give them a go.
